In Short
Once a roofing company, this corner lot has been transformed into a hip hangout with retractable garage-door walls that open to an expansive back garden. The decor also includes mid-century chairs and a table made from a refurbished shuffleboard. Young rock-and-rollers, 30-something gay clientele and other groups mingle easily. Drinks include house-infused cocktails and blue collar beers like Olympia tall boys. The menu focuses on wallet-friendly snacks like quesadillas and sloppy joes.

Went here for the first time last wk, not an after-work crowd rather, lots of locals. (Everyone was there in their t-shirts and jeans or shorts at 5:30pm on a Friday, don't people work anymore???) Had 4 drinks and a lg plate of nachos during happy hour and it was great! The place was crowded and busy but the bartenders were great. The drinks were inexpensive but nice and strong! This place is highly recommended, go when it's nice and you can sit outside in the back at a picnic table, but go early to get a spot.
Pros: Strong, cheap drinks, good happy hour bar food
Cons: Not enough picnic tables out back

We live in the neighborhood and have tried it a few times. Went last night with three other neighbors, and I was none too happy to leave. Just the two of us spent $50 on food and drinks, and that's $40 more than we should have (you can't screw beer up thank God). The bartender talked down to me and made me feel as if she was doing us all an enormous favor as exemplified by her impatient and passive-aggressive demeanor. The food was just average - $7.00 for two tacos as bland as Lake Oswego (go to St. Johns and order the tacos for a buck at the Mexican grocery store and you'll wish you could move in), my mixed drink wasn't all that great, and the service; ah forget it. Why does Portland have the worst service on the planet? I grew up here, but have lived and worked in Chicago and New York, and the neighborhood bars kept me coming back because THEY WERE FRIENDLY - they were a true neighborhood bar, not a pseudo-hip here's a drink and a kick in the jewels for stopping in sort of place. Too cool for school? Bite me. Just my opinion though.
