In a word- average.
I don't know- perhaps it's because my palate has gotten more discerning. Perhaps it's all those cooking shows. Perhaps it's chef Gordon Ramsay's mantra: Respect the food. It may be a combination of all of the above, but in the end, the Hot Plate just didn't live up to expectations.
I ordered out three dishes: General Tso's Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, and Pad Thai Chicken. I figured this would give me a broad spectrum of their chicken flavors.
The Good- the food was still very hot on arrival. Everything was in order. The food seemed reasonably well prepared.
The Bad- Everything was exceptionally average. Each dish had its own special mediocrity. The kung pao was sliced chicken breast intermixed with assorted diced vegetables that tasted like they were fresh not frozen. The sauce was a generic clear sauce with some chili flakes thrown in to make it spicy. (Which is not what I ordered as it was for my kid- I wanted it mild which they didn't do). The General Tso's was breaded chicken breast chunks in a fairly bland sauce. The pad thai was bland noodles and bland chicken. Each of these dishes taste like something you could make at home from an old Betty Crocker cook book. These dishes didn't taste like they were even inspired by Asian cuisine let alone bearing the name of Asian dishes.
If your expectations aren't high, then the Hot Plate will do just fine. To me, it's one step up from cafeteria food. I won't be ordering from them again.
Great food, minor disappointment at first, ended up perfect!.
I placed an order tonight, and because of a medication I took which advises me to not to drive, I had to request delivery. I wanted them to add some Coke or Pepsi to the order, and they promptly told me that a can of Pepsi costs $1.00 a piece. I just about fell out of my chair upon hearing that. $1.00 for a 12oz can of Pepsi is criminal. Needless to say I told them "no". So I was filling this comment out but had not yet submitted the publish button below, when my doorbell rang.
Imagine my surprise when the delivery driver showed up at my door with a regular 22 ounce cup of Pepsi.
Now to me, that's great customer service. I was all set to leave a somewhat half good/half bad review but this kind of behavior is why I am changing my 3 to a 5!
I told him that if he would go to Walgreens or Albertson's (a local grocery chain here in the Portland area) and pickup a couple 2 liters of Pepsi, and I would give him a very generous tip, like $10 if he would do so, but he told me that it's against his company's policy to make additional stops on the way, or afterward, and that his manager would know if he took too long in getting back. I admire his honesty, and thanked him profusely for at least bringing me a cup of Pepsi.
I understand the managers concerns, but him bringing me the cup was just outstanding to me, and is the kind of customer service that ensures I will be a repeat customer for many times to come.
Fast service, Awesome Food. Hot plate restaurant is the best place to get chinese food in Beaverton and Tigard area. The food taste amazing. I love Hotplate crab cream cheese appetizer and their General Tso chicken which has all white meat chicken, make the way I like it. The sauce is really good and better than Jinhwa or any other chinese restaurant that I been to. Also, Hot plate got delivery..sometimes when I watch my NBA game and need some good food to eat, I called Hot Plate and they deliver to my house within 17-28 minutes..If I have to recommend a friend for chinese restaurant, it would be Hot PLate Asian Cuisine.
food is delicious. I love this place. Everytime I order I get fresh delicious food. Chicken is all white meat and the vegetables are crunchy and fresh. You get a lot of food for the price -especially at lunch. I had recommened this place to my friends, often taking them there and I must say they agree with my review. If you like Chinese and you like it fresh and with lots of flavor -go to Hot Plate.
Large variety of Americanized Asian food. Hot plate has fast service, a polite staff and a large variety of Americanized Asian food. Most dishes are served family style and are reasonably prices at around 6 to 10 dollars. I get pad thai here because there are no Thai restaurants close to my house. The pad thai is very bland compared to authentic Thai restaurants, and dont expect vegetables in your dish unless stated on the menu. The orange chicken and sweet and sour pork were served with only meat and sauce. The menu is not terribly inspired, but the convenience of having Asian food down the street means I'll probably go again.
Great Delivery. Great food, great price...and they deliver. I suggest going in an grabbing a paper menu if you plan on ordering from home because they have a lot. The family meals are a great value.
Great food and atmosphere. A restaurant that offers more than just chinese food, it's chinese food with a kick. Price is reasonable and the staff greets you with kindness and sincere welcome. A MUST try if you are looking for a change of pace when chinese food is no longer kicking you palate. Quick on the delivery and definitely lives up to their name....HOT PLATE!
Good food at a good price. Hot Plate is one of those places that you know will at least be consistent. The food is good without being either great or terrible. It?s a great place to go if you want just good Chinese food at a good price. Oh?.and delivery is fast and friendly!
