ETA- Thank you to all those that have taken time to write me. The messages were sweet, heartfelt and lovely to read. The message below from either the owner and or her daughter speak volumes about who they are as people and how they refuse to make it right. Instead the message below was incoherent and nonsensical rhetoric. As the saying goes "You can't argue with crazy" that sums it up. I have posted what was sent to me, from the owner, and her vile words and meaningless rant. I have to say that my time is valuable and expensive. I don't think it's fair to argue with someone who clearly isn't capable of putting together a comprehensible sentence. I would respond had her reply been that of a well thought out, educated person who is concerned with rectifying the issue. Her response speaks volumes about who you will be dealing with, should an issue and or problem ever arise. Buyer beware. Happy New Year to all and sorry to those that have also had such terrible experiences. Your voice has been heard. (we since have had incredible experiences with numerous quilt stores that will treat you right and make your experience one you'll never forget, in a GOOD WAY) :) Shortly we'll be posting those stores that you may have not had a chance to visit.

The fact that your mom sent me a vicious, hate filled rant, calling me names, speaks volumes about your mother and who she is. The message I left below was because I had numerous people asking me what happened and If I would re post, so it's a request, I happily obliged.

I was attacked based on my looks, which I'm proud of!

You protecting your mother speaks volumes about you as well.

I find it very interesting that you make no mention of the nasty message your mother sent to me. Or that you don't mention why her account along with Brian was deleted from Yelp. I wouldn't put it past you to now say that your mom never wrote that message. As for your mom not being in the store, here we go with the LIES! When I was shocked and appalled at the rude behavior and asked to speak with the owner, the lady said "that is the owner". Your mother shook her head YES and said she was the owner. I'm not sure how you're going to spin that?  View Less

My son is very well behaved and volunteers his time to those in need (children) The message this owner sent me is horrifying as we were innocently looking around. I am very proud of my children and I am shocked that the owner was commenting about my sunnies. I don't teach my kids to bully or attack and that is just what this women did. She attacked me for wearing sunglasses.

I don't think I should justify to a stranger why I wear them, so fyi-

I just had eye surgery. That was what I encountered from the owner and it gets much worse. I would not recommend doing business with someone that is clearly a mean spirited bully. I am still in shock that an owner would treat a customer in that regard. Please tread carefully. The comments below -The owner of Holly Hill Quilt went out of her way to send me.

" Your child was asked to not touch a breakable. Sorry you are a bitch and do not respect other people's businesses. Take the sunglasses off you skank and stop pretending to be something you are not. Everyone was witness to YOUR behavior that day"

The above statement is from the owner of Holly Hill Quilts.

She didn't ask not to touch-She demanded that my son not play with the toy. It was a snowglobe and he was fascinated by the intricate pieces inside. We were both shocked as we've never had this happen anywhere. We live in 3 different countries and travel within many cultures. I don't know why someone who is that unhappy operating a store, would want to be in business, where children are with their mums. My son is well past a baby stage and behaves exceptional, as do so many others we've seen.

She has been flagged on several sites for leaving herself glowing reviews which is "shilling" She will leave about 4-5 great reviews for her store and Brian does the same. They have been banned from a few sites so I am disappointed that more sites don't have better ways of handling fraud which clearly this is. Reviews are meant to be from those that are genuine customers, not the owner and son duo.  View Less

Horrible Customer Service. My mother lives in nearby Canby, so whenever I am in town, we happily drive over to Hollyhill quilts to spend not only our money but a pleasant couple of hours.

This past July/August, we both spend a great deal of money on one of our anticipated adventures into Hollyhill. Some of our money was spent on yardage but most was on kits. Hollyhill truly has some very nice and creative kits.

One of the kits was a bit difficult for my Mother to figure out (the cutting). To help her out, I brought the kit home with me with the intention of cutting the fabric and mailing it back to her for assembly.

The first thing I do when I have a kit is to verify the included yardage against the pattern listing. For the first time ever - after more than 20 years quilting for me and 30+ years for my Mother and many, many, many kits - the kit was short yardage in one of seven pieces of fabric.

I called Hollyhill and spoke to Christine. She indicated that the owner was out of the store due to a death in the family, but that the lady who puts the kits together would call me back. No return call, so I called the store again (the day after my initial call).

Brian answered the phone and proceeded to treat the issue like it was all my fault. Rather than listen to what I had to say, Brian immediately berated me for calling back, that "I was told the owner (his mother) was the only one who would look into the issue and she was out", "all of our kits are complete" and then HUNG UP on me! He told me I was not listening to him and had a bad attitude.

I have worked in customer facing positions for over 25+ years in the high tech industry and find this type of interaction unacceptable. Consumers have plenty of alternatives for spending their money, so to be treated in this fashion is unnecessary, bad business practices and shows a lack of focus on customer satisfaction.

I strongly recommend that you not do your shopping in this store. You work to hard for your money to be treated in such a bad manner. Besides, if you have issues, who wants to listen to the first response of it's all your fault, we are perfect.

12/8/11: UPDATE

I sent a detailed email to Hollyhill with photo's of my concern/question. Janice, the owner, replied to my email overnight with an explanation.

Janice replied even though she was out of the store due to a death in the family. I was most impressed with her taking the time to reply to me.

Janice's reply was professional.

Her explanation was that they wanted to save customers the price of excess fabric thus changed the way the border was cut. Rather than have to purchase fabric sufficient to NOT piece the outer border, i.e. one piece as suggested in the pattern (used length of fabric) they decided to put the kit together with the outer border pieced (width of fabric). The only notation of this change was via a file folder label on the fabric.

An OK substitution. I would have preferred to make this decision on my own. But at the very least, clearly stated, not via a cryptic label on the fabric.

I am pleased with the response from Janice.  View Less

Very Poor Customer Service!. Very poor customer service! Beautiful shop. But ... my friend asked about getting the sale coupon I had been given a week ago,and was denied. The owners son said to us 'The greed is getting out of hand. This is just greedy. Would you do this to my mom if she was here?' We were shocked! Another customer offered her coupon to my friend and he told her 'No, you can't do that!' I have been in here a few times, and each time have encountered arrogance, especially with the cashier, to the point of being uncomfortable. Today was the last time. Beautiful shop, beautiful merchandise. I will find what I need anywhere else but here.

STAY AWAY The OWNER is a NIGHTMARE. We walk in barely past 3 feet and the owner was an absolute nightmare. She yelled at us and had no patience for the young. Talk about someone who thinks she can comment on how other people look, yet this woman is ugly not only on the inside but the outside as well. She is overweight and nasty. We had heard terrible reviews but wanted to give her store a chance. Wish we had listened to what we read, especially given the fact that she berates her employees and has no respect. Trust me, this place isn't worth your time or money. Will never return, that's a promise!  View Less View More
