Royal Thaiheartbroken that you are gone. My husband and I either ate or got take out here at least once a week, usually twice. They were so friendly and the food was fantastic! I know there are a lot of other Thai places close by, we've tried them all. Oh Royal Thai... we miss you!
Excellent, fresh food and friendly service. I've run across some horrid Thai restaurants in Portland (Thai Thai 2, you know who you are), have been served clearly days-old food, and almost gave up on getting decent Thai food. Then I found this place. I don't think a week passes where I don't eat this food. It's always super fresh (we can tell, restaurant people!), really fast and totally delicious. Seriously, this is totally the best Thai I've had in town (I haven't been to many though - and never an expensive one). It's cheap too. Dishes range from 6-11 bucks. They don't skimp on ingredients and the good stuff isn't just crammed in at the top like some take-out places do. You order something with chicken and you'll get mounds of tasty poultry. I'd recommend the garden vegetable, cashew, tofu dish. Man, is that good! Their Pad Thai is excellent too. I've never sat down at the place, so I can't speak of the in-house service, but the checkout help is always very polite, happy and kind and my order is always ready when I pick it up. I LOVE this place.
Best Thai in Portland.
This is place is a great secret when there are bad Thai restaurants on every corner. It is never busy and always consistent and accurate. We are always surprised that so many people go to Chaba Thai down the street when their food is sometimes so bad you have to throw it out when you get home, or so inconsistent that the 'mild' that you ordered for the kids is so hot it will hurt you. Royal Thai's Tom Kha is so smooth and flavorful.
Please try this place! You will never go back to Chaba Thai again.
greatest Thai in PDX.
I would have to say Royal Thai is the best kept secret in Portland. My husband and I stumbled upon it by accident and since have being loyal customers refusing to stray.
Amazing food. Exceptional service. Great clean interior. I can not say enough good things about them.
Try the Pineapple Curry and Papaya salad you will not be disappointed!
Any night is a good night they are rarely over crowded and always prompt.
Our favorite neighborhood joint.
We get takeaway from Royal Thai about twice a month because the food is great and so is the service! Our main addiction is the pad thai, which we order over and over again, even though we keep meaning to try something new; it's light and tangy and has a complex taste that we haven't found elsewhere. Everything else we've tried--various curries, fried rices and noodle dishes--has been excellent as well.
The staff is super friendly. They seem genuinely glad to see you, unlike at many other Thai restaurants , where the service is spotty at best. So, yes, highly recommended.
Pleasantly Surprised.
I've never written a review, but I think this restaurant deserves to be recognized.
My husband and I were trying to pick a place to have dinner that would satisfy two toddlers and a grandma.
Wanting to try something different, I picked this place because I always see it when dining across the street at another restaurant we frequent (you know, the one that serves pepper salted squid). We were a little hesitant, since the sign said Restaurant and Bar, and we had two children with us. We were surprised, though, to discover a clean, classy, and pleasant place. It was rather late on a Friday night, so we were the only customers - good for us because our boys can't sit still and wanted to roam around the place. The employees were very nice and didn't mind my kids getting out of their chairs. Service was pleasant, fast, and attentive. Food was GREAT! We had pad thai, chicken satay, sticky rice, green curry, and thai iced tea. The pad thai easily beat out some of the more popular thai restaurants in town. The peanut sauce that came with the satay was so good, I had it boxed and took it home to dip my leftover grilled chicken at home! Even my mother-in-law commented on how delicious the food was. Don't be put off by the exterior - this place is really good. This has become our new favorite thai place.
Best Thai I have had in Portland..
I have been in and out of Portland for a year and this resaurant is absolutely the hands down best thai to date. Showering Rama = Wonderful. Cashew Chicken = Wonderful. Satay =Wonderful. I plan on going through the entire menu. Thank you Royal Thai. Prompt take out as well. Clean and classy interior with a decieving store front, just the way i like my restaurants.

Great Thai Food at a Great Price.
We have tried Thai food all over Portland and Royal Thai is absolutely the best. We have dinner there 3 to 4 times a month. Typically we order Jasmine Soup, Chicken Satay, Pad Thai, Royal Fried Rice, Cashew Chicken. There are four of us and we always have plenty left to take home. Often will will ask for a recommendation of a new entree and they have never failed to be good. The prices are extremely reasonable and the service is first rate.
- We love this place.
