Don't waste your money here....
I went to the Safari Club for the first time recently for a birthday party for a friend. There were about 40-50 people there, but it was mid-week so a fairly quiet night. I had to go to the bar to get a drink; servers were nowhere to be seen. (Oh, wait, I did see them hanging out together once at the bar, chatting with their friends.) Later I moved out to the patio to sit with friends and when one finally came by I asked for a menu. Forty-five minutes later the server came by again and said "Oh, did I forget to bring you a menu?" By then I wasn't even hungry, because I had had a chance to use the bathrooms, which were pretty filthy. I didn't order another drink either because I didn't want to wait another half hour for it.
So I went back to the bar to get another beer and there were two bartenders and BOTH ignored me, standing there talking to friends and each other. Another couple who was at the party had waited an hour and hadn't even SEEN a menu. So I decided it would be pointless to give them any more of my money, wished my friend a Happy Birthday and left.
On my way out, I asked the "receptionist" why the service was so slow, didn't they bring in extra servers for the party that had been reserved? Why YES! THEY DID! WTF??? I mentioned how disappointed I was because I lived close by and if the food had been decent I would have come back--but I'll never set foot in there again.
This place either has the WORST MANAGEMENT or the LAZIEST SERVERS in the city. And the whole time the MC was chatting up tipping the girls, etc. FOR WHAT? STANDING AROUND LOOKING HOT? That being said, the server's outfits looked EXTREMELY uncomfortable to work in and they looked uncomfortable in them and moved VERY slowly and gingerly so I doubt the management really cares if people eat there or not. Sorry, in my world I WORK for my money, so I'm not certainly not going to tip you for doing NOTHING.
its all fluff!. This place used to be called "Docs"--and it was awesome. Sure, it had a more "blue-collar" sports-bar feel, but it was always packed, the girls were very friendly, and there was no cover. Currently, Safari has a cover of 5 dollars (at least on the fri night I was there). The drinks are more expensive than other clubs in portland. On this particular Friday night the place was DEAD. No one was at the racks tipping and the girls were just sitting around. The place has too many tables and chairs, it is too crowded. There is NO air movement so you will suffocate from smoke. The place simply tries to look like a high class club, but its just looks. Avoid this and go to Club 205 where there is no cover, no meaningless pomp and circumstance, and plenty of freindly girls.
