Be Aware. People need to be aware that the last seating is 7:15PM on nights they are open, and the staff may also not be aware of this. On a Wends., I called and left a message to make a reservation for 7:30PM on the upcoming Fri. The recording indicated that a message asking for a reservation had to be confirmed by a return call so I left a number. Later that day, I was called back and informed that the restaurant we not be open on upcoming Fri. and the soonest that the could take us was 7:30PM the following Tues. I indicated this would be fine, but it was a strange conversation, so on Tues, I called a left a message saying that we would be there at 7:30PM that night and if this was a problem to please call back. I received no follow up call. We arrived at 7:30PM and were quite rudely informed that the last seating was at 7:15PM. I mentioned all the phone calls, that we could have easily made a 7:15 reservation if we were told that this was their last seating and the faculty member (I assume) was unmoved: he showed me that our reservation on the reservation list for that day was for 7:15PM, not 7:30PM and that no call back number was provided. No apology, just asked to leave. As for the food, I do not know and, likely will never know given this experience.…
Great food at affordable prices.
My spouse and I usually eat dinner at home, and if we go out in the evening it has to be really special. Restaurant Bleu was perfect last night. They offer a 3 or 5 course dinner. We were going to
be moderate and have the 3, but we couldn't decide what to skip so went for the 5. Everything we had was delicious, especially my steak.
Here is my advice to anyone who is considering Bleu.
1) The menu changes daily, so don't set your heart on any one dish.
2) Remember Bleu is open only Tues-Fri, for lunch and dinner.
3) Reservations are important.
4) Service may be described as leisurely, so this is not a good place before a show. If your time is limited, say so when being seated, and usually they can step it up. Or, kick back and slowly savor the multi-course meal as the main event of your evening.
5) Portions are moderate. The 5-course dinner probably gives you more calories than you should eat in one day. Ordering the dessert to go is a possibility.
6) Prices for food and wine are extremely reasonable. Tip generously.…
Once again, very good, but with a TWIST!!!. Having been here many times, my wife and I thought this time would be like any other. To our surprise, the Food Network was filming as we were seated. They were talking to people about their food, and from the chef's who prepaired them. It was a site to see. But, about the food, great. My personal favorite was the carrot ginger soup and the caramelized onions with beef. Wonderful. I recommend Bleu as a great way to relax, have some time off, and eat food prepaired by students of Portland's Western Culinary Institute.…
