Durham >Vital Barber Shop
Service not worth the price.
I've gone to Vital several times; trying to find a good barber. I was less than impressed with the first two guys that cut my hair. I could have gotten similar cuts at Supercuts. I was hoping that I'd have better luck on my third visit. That cut was with XXXXX. He is a good stylist and I liked the haircut. But, he didn't wash my hair after the cut. According to their web site, "shampoo and hot towel neck shave included with all men's cuts." He had another appointment waiting for him, so I figured he was in a hurry and since I was on my way home I would just take a shower then. Today, I got another cut from XXXXX. Again, the cut is good, but no shampoo. I've got hair clipping all over my face, in my hair, and now on my shirt. I'm guessing he's either lazy or figures he can fit more haircuts in this way, but if you're not going to wash away all the loose hair then knock $10 off the $29 price.
Names removed as a courtesy.
Chase is the Best. My boys get their hair cuts here with Chase once a month and they just love his work and his personality. He is very talented and we appreciate his work.
Ask for Paco!.
This guy has wit and charm but most of all he listens. An artists who can make hair look good. Our 12 year old has been seeing Paco for the last year and a half. Every time he sits in the chair Paco works his magic and really listens and pays attention to detail. He also has great conversation with my son and makes him feel very important. As a Mother this is important not only that he is having a great time but feeling good enough to walk out the door with a h0t looking hair do.
Thanks Paco for making hair time a positive experience for our son.

We love Paco!. My husband and both my sons get their hair cut by Paco and he is consistantly great!
What happened to Justin?.
I usually see a great barber named Justin, but when I called to schedule an appointment the other day, they said he was gone. I scheduled with someone else (no names) but it just wasn't the same.
I think he may have opened his own shop somewhere in NE.
Does anyone know anything. It would be more than worth it to drive into town for one of Justin's haircuts.
what happened to justin???.
I've been coming here for a while, and I like the place.
Unfortunately, they can't hold down a stylist for more than a few months.
I finally ended up with Justin because, as everyone else says, he knows what he's doing and is consistant.
Well, after over a year now, he's gone, too. My neighbor told me he opened up his own shop in NE Portland called Rook's Barbershop, and I think I'm just going to start going there. I like The Vital, but there's not enough consitancy, and with Justin, I know what I'm getting - a great haircut from a seasoned pro.
Has anyone been to Rook's or know how I can find Justin???
great cuts; great service. Exactly what I was looking for from a barbershop. Nice atmosphere, great service, great cut, a beer while I was waiting, good conversation with my barber (and easy on the eyes, too!). I used to go the neighborhood barbershop with my dad in Philadelphia. This is all that, but updated. I can bring my kid in here, I can bring grandpa...and I could even bring my clients. Pretty cool.
good service, good cut, but no neckrub.
I went here after another user mentioned the neckrub. I asked about it afterward, and he said they don't do that, so that was a disappointment, but my hair looks good, and the stylist, Paco, was friendly and talkative.
I like the old school hot towels and straight razor to shave the neck.
Complimentary premium sodas (like Weinhards) / beers are a nice bonus!
Great Cuts!. I found the Vital Barbershop just after it opened. My wife bought me a gift certificate for Christmas and since we had just moved down here, thought I'd give it a shot. Though the cuttter I started with and used for the first 6 months left, I've yet to get a bad haircut from any of the staff. All seem to be experienced and genial, yes some more than others, but that might just be me, too. All in all, Vital is a great place to get a cut!
FIND THE RIGHT BARBER.
I have been takling my son to The Vital Barber Shop for about a year now. We have had at least 65 stylists. the challenge here is finding the one with the skills. We had two young women barbers that were horrid. Both appeared to be about 18 and were obviously new to the business. My suggestion is to stay away from the very young barbers. After trial and error we have settled on Justin. This guy knows his stuff! He is professional and relates well to my son. Based on the results and his scissor tattoo's you can see that he has been doing this for a long time. You are going to pay a little more, but who cares if you find the right barber.
They also offer shaves. I had their deluxe shave and must say that I have paid 2x as much for the same thing in Vegas. The shave was good however the gal who gave it to me had the personality of a wet washcloth. There was not much interaction at all. When you drop $50 for a shave you want to feel appreciated. I could have caught her on a bad day.
Service is good and you can usually get inb on the same day. They offer all clients premium soft drinks or beer (nice touch). The front desk is can be a little snooty. Parking at Bridgeport is never easy so be ready for it. If you get have an appointment with Justin it will be worth it. Overall this place is great. A little fine tuning and it will be excellent.
