Durham >Vital Barber Shop
What a great way to unwind!.
Just had my first ever straight razor shave. What an experience! After a stressful week, it was just nice to kick back, get the pre-shave oil, shave cream, scalp massage, face massage, and a great shave on top of that. The barbershop was hopping; they had seven chairs running and their waiting chairs were full, so it was a bit loud. But I liked that. By the way, the beer was a nice touch!
Can't wait until my next visit...won't be long.
Finally! I found a good barber!.
I tried out the Vital recently and was more than impressed. I got a haircut from a barber named Justin, a young guy in his 30's with lots of tattoos.
After trying out several places since I moved to Lake Oswego 3 years ago, I can say one thing for sure: This guy knew EXACTLY what he was doing!
He was pleasant, knowledgeable and highly-skilled at his craft.
The place was clean, friendly and bright, and they give their customers free beer! What more can you ask for?!?
I'll definitely be returning next month for another great haircut.
I like this place. I've been a Vital Barbershop customer for over a year now. I'm really impressed with them. Service is great. Jennifer is my usual barber. But it doesn't matter who I see--all the barbers I've seen are consistently good. Great cuts, usually outstanding service, and I get in on time for my appointment. I recommend to all my friends.
Poor Customer Service.
I had an appointment last Saturday to start the day, shave haircut, the works. I never kept that appointment because I committed the unpardonable sin of being less than 10 minutes early to my 9am appointment. Being early to the first appointment of the day means you walk through the door before they are officially open.
How do I know they weren't open? Because the gentleman inside brusquely informed that, "We're not open yet."
Now I am standing there with my 5 year old son, cold and wet from the walk over from the car thinking, couldn't he have phrased that better, couldn't he just offer us a place to sit INSIDE while the rain/snow combo sleets down outside rather than looking at me like I am interloper.
I mean I am supposed to drop a decent chunk of change to get a shave and haircut here starting w/in the next 7 minutes or so. But no, I am early and not to be treated with respect.
So we left and didn't come back. Nor did I call to cancel my appointment as I felt they didn't deserve that level of politeness from me. But wait it gets better, they never called me to check if I needed to reschedule or was even coming in. Even though I am in their system and they have my contact info and I am sure the $60+ I would have spent not counting tip should have been at least worth the stylist's time to find out where I was - but I guess not.
So here's to the Vital Barber, while the services they offer might be essential I fear their name is at best a misnomer.
Keshia gave me the best haircut.. I just had 10 inches cut off my hair and Keshia was outstanding. She gave me a great bob. It is not only for men.
Great Cuts, Service Needs Work.
I took my bf for haircut & shave. We had appointment on Friday evening; when we arrived it was so crowded there was no where for us to sit while we waited. Also no coat hooks, so we had to hang around in our wet coats. (it was pouring rain outside) Took awhile for front girl to offer us anything to drink. We finally got our drinks & seats & shortly thereafter were called back. Weren't too impressed with the up front service.
Technician did a great job on the bf's haircut. She listened to what we wanted & made suggestions to get the look we were going for. I was surprised she never washed his hair, either before or after the cut. But she was obviously very competent in her technique for the cut itself.
Shave came out great, but she forgot the hot towel to start with. She remembered after she'd already shaved right side & applied it before continuing to the left. She was very thorough & used enough product for a comfortable shave. I will agree with the person who commented about the hot towels being stained. Of the 2 she used, one was fine, the other stained.
What bothered me most about the visit was I had expected this to be a relaxing treat for my bf. Unfortunately, either because of the number of people or the design of the room, it was VERY noisy, which made it hard for anyone to relax. I don't know if this is just a Friday night thing or if it's always like that, but it was a shame.
Another customer arrived when we did, with the same appointment time for a by name technician. That technician happened to have the chair next to us. He was with a customer, but finished within 10 min of us being seated. My bf was in the chair at LEAST 40 min, and it wasn't until the end of his service that the guy who came in same time we did was finally seated to start his, even though the technician had been free for 30 min! He told customer no one had told him he had someone waiting. That's just bad!
Hair cut: 10
Great service, great cuts, on time. I just found out that the Vital Barbershop is on City Search and had to get a review in. These guys are phenomenal. I've been going for a year now. I'm in customer service, so I get excited when I see it done right. The barbers friendly and the conversation is usually great. It's a nice atmosphere. I get a great cut, regardless who I see. When I make an appointment, I get into the chair within 10 minutes of my appointment time. I bring the kids and we make an event of it. Love them.
Prior Reviewers are Saboteurs?. I cannot believe, having been to Vital for the first time not two hours ago, that the reviewers who gave this place one star are posting in good faith. Vital was immaculate on the inside, the service was impeccable, and the result was fantastic -- all for a very reasonable price ($27.50). Why would anyone pay $15 for a craptastic cut at Supercuts, when places like Vital are in business, I will never know. The free drink while waiting thing is a nice touch, as was the post-cut neck massage. I will definitely be back and would recommend this place to anyone: women, men, kids, etc.
Great customer service.
In reading some of the previous reviews, I have to believe at least two of the four reviewers have never been in Vital Barbershop! I've been a customer for about 10 months, and have found the service and quality of haircuts to be consistently far above average. I'm always greeted by name, offered a beverage (soda or beer), and rarely have to wait more than five or ten minutes for my appointment. In my experience, the cutters try to cut hair the way the customer wants to have his hair cut, rather than the way the cutter wants to cut it. I've found a barber there who now knows exactly how I like my hair cut, so I always make an appointment with her. I especially like the fact they wash your hair after the haircut, and give you a neck shave! That's the first time I've had a real neck shave in 20 years!
The shop is very clean and attractive, and all of the employees very attentive. Vital isn't 'cheap,' but I've found that when it comes to haircuts, you generally get what you pay for!
Very happy with Vital. I can?t testify to the previous reviewers? experiences, especially the shave, but I was pleasantly surprised with the Vital Barbershop after it was recommended to me. My hair stylist was Cindy and she did a wonderful job! I?m so happy with the style and I?ve gotten plenty of compliments! She was professional, courteous, attentive to my instructions, and added her own styling wisdom. The place was clean, there was no creepy guy, and the rest of the staff was friendly and professional. Yeah, there was hair on the floor, but I expect that at a hair salon. I was very happy with Vital and I highly recommend it!
