This modern tavern’s soaring ficus trees, woodsy antler chandeliers and salon-style wall hangings create an upscale casual ambience befitting its chic clientele. Hip studio dwellers and clusters of well-heeled twenty-somethings snack on bar bites of deviled eggs, fried green beans and onion rings served with a caper and red onion aioli in the posh bar. In the secluded second-floor mezzanine, Northwest neighbors from moneyed West Hills residents to young, twitterpated couples enjoy American classics like iceberg wedge salads, steak and fries and five-layer chocolate cake.
Too bad...
by Lazer Cheney
The menu feels like putting on a formal gown to go to a wal-mart. 4 deep fried dishes and deviled eggs? The concept is a corrupt and retarded brainchild of a man with too much money and not enough taste. It's as if he accidentally dipped a fish stick in caviar and then built a restaurant. A total waste.
- Pros: Front of house staff
- Cons: Overall concept is ridiculous
Great food and nice ambience
by chikkus
My wife and I ate here on Oct 24, Sat. We were encouraged by citysearch reviews but were a little confused by the menu - a mix of fine dining items and some bar food items. We were seated upstairs away from the crowd downstairs - the music was a little loud but the food and service were excellent. Good wine selection. I had the sable fish - melted in your mouth and my wife had the steak. Great date night....would come back again.
- Pros: Great food, good ambience, great service
- Cons: Music too loud
Friday lunch
by cmt45
Had lunch with friends on a Friday afternoon. After being seated, it took several minutes for one of the two servers to ask if I wanted a beverage while waiting for my other friends to arrive. After they all did, it was another several minutes before she came to take our order.
My food-mac and cheese was only ok. Quite dry with big hunks of unmelted cheese-no creaminess at all. Friend said her tuna salad was good, but tuna was cooked well done, as was the ahi on the sandwich of my other friend. Server indicated it was cooked rare and seared only on the outside-not the case. The caesar salad (listed on menu as Zefiro's) was the most disappointing after having it at both Zefiro and the previous incarnation of 23Hoyt. Limp lettuce, a few croutons and too much dressing, no parmesan at all.
Overall, I was quite disappointed. I had been here before the menu changed and it was outstanding. The new head chef was there, so I am not sure why the food wasn't better. The last thing was that both bathrooms were out of soap-was the lunch rush that big that they were out at 1:00? I hope they can work out the lackluster service and food-I would like to see them stick around.
- Pros: plenty of seats available
- Cons: service and food only ok
