Editorial Review for yakuza – by Bevyn K. Rowland

In Short
The dimly lit dining area of this upscale lounge features blonde-wood tables and rich red walls. One wall features a large mural, while a long bar spans another. The menu offers an impressive selection of sake, maki and nigiri. Meanwhile, inventive treats like tempura-fried goat cheese, succulent Kobe beef burgers and savory flaming French toast keep anti-raw patrons coming back. During warmer evenings, couples drift onto the back patio to dine next to a lush, Japanese garden.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

The place gets packed, especially on weekends. Call ahead for reservations if you have a party of 6 or more.

Where to Sit

If you can, grab a table at the sushi bar--it faces toward the restaurant, allowing you to take in the scene as a singleton or with your pals. Also, there are long tables in the middle of the restaurant that are perfect for groups.

Got rid of amazing sushi chef. Bartender clad in a grey t-shirt and ratty jeans. We sent back two undrinkable Cosmopolitans (pretty hard to mess up), and guess what? The bartender proceeded to taste, yes, with his mouth on our glass, BOTH drinks. You decide.

This was not as good as I thought it was going to be. My boyfriend and I ordered two plates and a martini, and the bill came to $30. Nothing was filling except the drink. The salmon sashimi was tiny, very good, but VERY tiny, and the soft shell crab dish had 4-5 small sushi pieces. It was a waste of money. You could go to Sushiville, or heck, even Red Robin and leave stuffed on a $20 tab. Not worth the money, unless you eat a very filling meal before you go!

Pros: Melt in your mouth sashimi

Cons: overpriced, WAY overpriced
