Editorial Review for Sckavone's – by Bevyn K. Rowland
In Short
Both the checkered linoleum floors and black-and-white photos of the historic space hearken to the 1930s, when the current owner's grandfather first occupied the location (Sckavone's Pharmacy). Today, the spot draws anti-hipsters trolling for comfort food and morning-after-hangover types seeking the same. Great burgers and superlative breakfast eats are backed with good coffee, cocktails and draught brews. The mellow service, laid-back atmosphere and late-night menu crown this neighborhood gem.

Love, love, love that I'm lucky enough to be so close to this place. The food has become much more consistent than when I first started frequenting, and I have always had an overall positive experience there. The pork loin is a wonderful entree. The meatloaf is like a dream! The brunch is totally radical with hearty corned beef hash as a personal favorite. The fish n chips are some of the best I've had, ever. The drinks are usually not worth buying, unless you figure out which waitress/bartender is the master. I'd pass otherwise. Oh, and did I mention that there are MILKSHAKES!!! Great variety, friendly service, and comfortable spacious booths make this neighborhood cafe/soda shop a total winner.
Pros: milkshakes, variety, friendly service, great space
Cons: not so good drinks, occasionally inconsistent

Honestly, people -- eat at Sckavone's. If you're like me, you're tired of over-hyped restaurants that empty your wallet without filling your stomach. Which is you'll love Sckavone's like I do. My wife and I have been going here regularly since they opened (we live 2 blocks away) and we have never been disappointed. Nothing fancy -- just normal food, deliciously prepared at a decent price. I'm a burger guy, and I think they have one of the best in town (1/2 pounder!).
Pros: good food and good portions; friendly waitresses w/ good taste in music
Cons: only 3 beers on tap; no deal on burgers at happy hour
