Folks line out the door for this Oprah-endorsed taqueria on trendy Mississippi. Order some barbacoa tacos with salsa fresca and a Horchata Borracha then take a seat outside on Por Que No's elaborate front patio.
worth the wait. i love the fresh ingredients and the tacos are excellent. it can be a bit pricey. at times it can be very busy.
Porque No made my wife vomit.
Never tried Porque No before so i called and placed a take-out order for two brian bowls, one with shredded chicken and the other with grilled. Also got 3 shreddded carnitas tacos and 3 shredded chicken tacos.
Went and picked up the food brought it home, gave my wife the brian bowl with the shredded chicken.
Less than 2 hours later she was violently VOMITING and had violent diarhrea. My wife is rarely sick and had no doubt the food was the cause of her illness. She says that she could still taste the bad meat or whatever it was the next day.
For what its worth my brian bowl was not great but i didnt get sick. The shredded chicken was gristly and greasy and grilled chicken was tough. I would give Porque No! a failing review even if my wife hadnt gotten food poisoning.
Most definitely Porque NO!
Next step may be to report this to the health department.
Good Tacos, Cheap. Very good, tuesdays they have some sort of discount thing.
I try to go as often as I cn.
This place is awesome. My wife and I usually get out of there completely full and $20 poorer. Get the chips and salsa. 3 tacos is around $9.00 and is enough food to fill you up and make you happy, very happy.
I was pretty amazed to see the few bad reviews for this place...some people are just needy or angry and there isn't a whole lot you can do for them.
Yummy, yummy, yummy. The fact that this is near my house makes it a bi-weekly stop for me. I can't get enough of it. The Brian's Bowl with grilled chicken is a must. And try the cucumber slices with guacamole. It's amazing. Yes, there's normally a line, but it's well worth the wait. Oh! I almost forgot... they do fresh juices that can be added to their margarita... DELICIOUS! The carrot-passion fruit is my favorite. :)
Not so much.
The food was tasty but not worth the money. I honestly just felt duped. I prefer Super Torta or any taco truck around, especially Torres De Morelos on Powell. Don't buy into the Hawthorne Hype!
My entire meal was $19, and that is one drink, two tacos, and tip. The margarita was Fabulous, as it should have been for $8.50. That's why I give this place two stars.
Yummy. Yummy food, everything looked and smelled great. I ordered chips and guac and black bean soup to go. All was delicious, just spicy enough and yum yum yummy. Also, coke in glass bottles from Mexico (with cane sugar, not high fructose corn syrup, more yum).
horrible food. This is a review for the Hawthorne location. After the article in Food Weekly we decided to give it a try. Our first clue to not go should've been the fact that the article was more focused on the place trying to be Green instead of the food. It was horrible! To start off the place was very busy and we had to sit either outside (Brrr it's winter) or over by the bathrooms. We almost left without eating after we watched about 30 small flies crawl all over a box on the shelf above us. Hopefully this contained no food products. An employee grabbed us just in time to say a table was open in the main room if we wanted it. After squeezing my way in between another table (the place is very cramped) My food arrived, I had chicken tacos that had so much onion and cilantro on them you could not taste the chicken. I scraped most of it off to find a very very small portion of chicken. My husband had ceviche & carnitos tacos. He said the ceviche had no flavor at all but citrus (trust me he eats this quite often so he's aware of the need for lemon juice) the carnitos tacos had the same onion and cilantro and portion problem. The only things remotely edible at this place is the cheese quesadilla (if you don't like sour cream make sure to tell them it's covered in it) and the pomagranite margaritas. To top the whole thing off it's very pricey for mexican food $44 for 3 tacos, one quesadilla, 2 drinks and ceviche. Don't believe the hype about this place there is way better mexican food in portland like san fellipe (sp) in Sellwood- I'd take taco bell over this place any day.
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!. The best Margaritas in town!!!!!!!!!! This is the only place I would order a margarita. They know how its done. The food is amazing as well. Hand made tortillas and a variety of fresh salsas. There is not one thing on the menu that is bad. This restaurant is always consistent which is a huge plus in my book. Check it out for the fun atmosphere and delicious food.
Thank God for good tacos in PNW. We live near the Hawthorne location and all I can say is best taco place we have been to in the Pacific Northwest (which is not saying anything). Moved from California to Washington and was too close to the wrong border for good "mexican" food. Wasn't expecting that to change when we moved to Portland, but was pleasantly surprised by Por Que No. The pescado taco is good but I love the pollo asado tacos (pollo verde is pretty good too). The guacamole has been consistently good and the people are really nice. They had a creamy roasted poblano hominy soup a few weeks ago that was killer. Tuesday nights are .50 off tacos and 1.00 off guac and chips.
