Popular family-owned restaurant from Salem makes its way to Portland's Burnside neighborhood serving up Mexican favorites.
the best mexican food in oregon
by cdub23
Los Baez is the best mexican food in oregon. Their salsa and tortillas cannot be beat. They have the same food as they do in Salem although the eastside location lacks the character of the original Los Baez. The service is decent but again nothing like Salem.
If you would rather go to Taco Bell then go ahead. Los Baez is a real mexican restaurant with authentic food from Michoacan. It is not some neo-yuppie portland west coast-mexican fusion restaurant with farm fresh ingredients and tantalizing dishes. It is a mexican restaurant straight up and the best one at that.
- Pros: salsa, tortillas, Wally Burritos
- Cons: ambience
Taco Bell is better but slower

AWFUL!!! The five star reviews below are fixed reviews from employees this is the worst restaurant I?ve ever been to, any one with taste buds would agree. They charged us $33.00 for two specialty margaritas using Don Julio; by the way a bottle of this same liquor is only $35.00. Okay so after you order your food, it comes to your table within five minutes hmmm, faster than Taco Bell, obviously premade and microwave. The worst part is the owner is this cheesy, game show acting idiot who could care less if you ever come back to any of his restaurants. Okay here is the truly awful part, we both got sick, it was from the premade poor excuse for Mexican food, and the inflated bill of course. I hope the Multnomah County you know who reads these reviews.

Mas flavor, por favor

I've had my share of bad Mexican food in Portland. And this wasn't the worst. However, it was pretty much utterly flavorless. I ordered a pork chimichanga that tasted like a huge chunk of pork roast had been boiled in plain water until it fell apart, then wrapped in a flour tortilla and fried with no spices or even salt. My refried beans were a cold, flavorless mush and the rice would have been better if it were Rice-a-Roni. There was some random iceberg lettuce and a tomato slice on the side with no dressing or flavor. I have never had to add extra salt to Mexican food before in my life, but I think I used half of the shaker just to get through part of my dinner. The waiter was attentive, but slightly off putting and had a creepy vibe. There was live music for about 10 minutes, consisting of a woman playing on a keyboard and someone banging on bongos. Unfortunately, I didn't try a happy hour drink but now I wish I had... it might have gotten me through an otherwise terrible meal.
- Pros: No waiting, decent prices
- Cons: Food is flavorless
