Seriously upscale sushi. If you are going for an inexpensive night out or standard fare- dont stop here.

If you want to pay fare price for upscale excellent sushi- this is your place.

Fresh and wonderful sushi. We have tried this place twice and loved it…did I say LOVED IT…Yes it was great. So many things to try and all are great. LEAVE ROOM FOR THE CHOCOLATE EGG ROLLS!

Date night mainstay. Go here at least once a month for date night. Always enjoy sitting at the sushi bar and having the chef just make random things for us. Food is amazing, service is good - especially for portland. Also one of the few places you can get the Rogue Morimoto beer on tap!

Delicious!. I'm so surprised to read some of the negative reviews! I've been twice for happy hour and both times were excellent. I haven't had a plate there that wasn't delicious!! The Kobe Flank Steak and Vegetable Tempura are my favorites (my boyfriend loves sushi, me... not so much). We had the chocolate egg rolls for dessert - to die for. Seriously. The service has always been very attentive, considering how busy they are. We will definitely be going back. If you're going for happy hour, get there early. It fills up fast!

Poisonous food and bad service?. Last night I was eating with my family. Our meals were decent but not as great as they have been in the past. It took forever for our server to even notice we were there. We don't eat the sushi because of the mercury content., and boy was I thankful we didn't last night. Toward the end of our meal there was a woman who was told to leave the restaurant after she became ill from something on the sushi menu. I don't know all the details, but she was sitting close to me and I saw her go all pale and take a couple of trips to the restroom. I think she asked to talk to the owner or manager. She seemed genuinely concerned and was being really calm about it. Then the manager/owner or whoever he was stood right next to me when he told her she was "86ed" for causing trouble and she could never come back to the restaurant again. Causing trouble? He seemed really proud of himself for it. I think that goes beyond bad service into some other region. The whole thing really put a damper on our family outing.

I don't know what they are thinking. I have been a number of times and their customer service has been terrible, and now I think it wasn't a coincidence but more of a practice. I have 2 friends who have had serious issues with their bills when we were at a group dinner. I know to always check my bill carefully there. I was worried about my family after seeing that woman get ill. Dinner should not include getting sick and being 86ed. I didn't even know restaurants could do that. I've only seen people get 86ed in bars if they start a fight or some other violent act. I try to support local restaurants, but I don't think I am going to recommend Bamboo Sushi Bar to anyone else.

No Guilt, but little glory. I've been looking forward to trying Bamboo Sushi ever since I first learned that a sustainable sushi restaurant was opening in Portland. We finally made it, and just in time. The happy hour brings a big crowd, and the dinner crowd is even larger.

We were quickly seated, and had excellent service. We did not drink any of the very delicious looking cocktails, so I can't speak for the bar menu. It's nice to get free edamame, it's quite rare in a Japanese restaurant to get anything for free. However, the miso was quite salty, so much so that we had trouble even eating it. Honestly, miso is pretty darn easy to make, so that was not a good sign.

The sushi arrived, and the portions were very small, but also very beautiful. The veggie rolls are the best value, and quite interesting too. The fish sushi was alas, disappointing. We ordered some of the sustainable varieties, and they were tiny (which was o.k.) but the taste just wasn't there. Some of the rolls were actually kind of sour tasting, not a good sign.

We'll try this place again, but on a different day of the week.

In the meantime, we'll go back to Kappaya, whose sushi truly is spectacular & has never left me wanting.

First time, Found the second great sushi place in PDX. Nice place, crowded even on a Monday night, which is unusual, but shows one thing - this is a well-liked place. Excellent selection of Sake. Nice menu, the certified fish and food sources is a comforting addition, and from what I read in the Oregonian, is the only sushi restaurant in the US that provides this.

I took a business partner who was up from LA to Bamboo Sushi, and of course LA brags about their sushi bars all the time, but he was definitely impressed by Bamboo Sushi. Now I have the only other sushi place I'll eat at besides Meiji-En on Broadway. (best portions, prices, freshness).

AWESOME!. I am pregnant now but cannot wait to be able to eat sushi here again. You must go here and sit at the sushi bar and ask the chef to make you something special.

Food was to die for.... I'm new to Portland, and am excited to check out its sushi world. bamboo was highly recommended so we came in to check it out. Love the sustainability and high quality fish. We had a marinated cod that almost made us cry it was so good...at least for the two bites we both had. Looking at the menu, the prices seemed a little high but not off the charts for normal portions. When the $50 in food arrived to the table, however, my boyfriend and I just kind of looked at each other and laughed, knowing we would have order twice as much just to get even remotely full. I've been eating sushi for years and years, and have never gotten such small quantities for my dollar. But we'll be back....during happy hour when many plates and rolls are half off.

sustainable bad food. This is an example of a good idea tasting bad...After reading an article in PDX mag about this place I was all excited about going somewhere new and seeing what this sustainable sushi bar was all about. The interior decoration is amazing, the staff seemed distracted, the (sustainable?)sushi was obviously prepared by an ameteur, it was falling apart and our wait at the sushi bar was way too long for our food.
