Soooo impressed, sooooo nice. I always get a little nervous/self-conscious when going to a new salon, not sure if there is an uppity feel to it... no worries here!

This place is gorgeous, and trendy and could easily be the sort of place that gives you attitude -- but its not. There is just this great vibe there. The women that I encountered today were BEYOND nice.

1 -- I've only previously had my eyebrows waxed. Today I tried a lip wax. I was nervous. The waxxing service was surprisingly less painful, and quick, and professional, and the girl who waxed me was so nice and calming. And it looks great -- I don't know why I haven't done this sooner!

2 -- I left, happy with my service, only to realize I had locked my keys in my car!! Not only did the amazingly kind receptionist give me the number for AAA, but she welcomed me to stay in their lounge and gave me TWO glasses of wine while I waited! So nice.

It is hard to beat great customer service, and high quality services in such a nice atmosphere. Add on top people who are genuinely kind and go above and beyond to help you, and you have something to talk about. Urban Waxx does it right. I've sort of instantly fell in love with this place. I'm actually looking forward to going back to have a leg/bikini wax now!

Fantastic Waxing Experience!. I went to Sara for my bikini wax. She was great! I immediately made my follow-up appt! I am so addicted to waxing now!

I highly recommend this place! They have an online email reminder which is GREAT!

Buy their Serious Serum! It is so worth it!

Quite pleased with their follow up. I wanted to write this follow up review to my previous negative review of Urban Waxx. Shortly after my review was posted, I was contacted by the owner personally to apologize for my experience. I was promptly refunded for my service (without even asking for it) and offered to come back for a visit with my usual waxer.

I am very pleasantly surprised with this response, and wanted to ensure I shared this with other Citysearch users. It seems that my negative experience was a rarity and I am grateful for their attention to customer satisfaction. Thank you Shannon!

Best Waxing in PDX!. I was first introduced to Urban Waxx and Shannon a couple years back and love the experience I have every time I come in for a wax. Everyone is so friendly and the ambience is so serene and relaxing. I have tried many places in the past, but this is by far the best in experience. I don't find waxing to be unpleasant here, and that's probably because of the type of wax they use. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good wax.

Best first wax ever!. I was super nervous about my first waxing experience and boy am I lucky that I found Urban Waxx!

This place is adorable! They made every effort to make sure that I was comfortable. Which was important to me because I was having all the hair ripped from my backside :) Not only was it cute... it was clean! Ultra important!

I had a brazilian and full leg waxing. Not nearly as painful or as embarrassing as I expected. Sarah was the best. I actually had a great time talking to her and laughed through most of the wax. She was fast, thorough, and made me feel like I wasn't naked from the waist down :) Thanks Sarah for not traumatizing me! I will never go anywhere else!

I can't believe I am saying this... but I am actually looking forward to my next wax :)

The BEST wax you'll ever have. Seriously. No, REALLY.. This review is long over due.

I have a lot to say.

If you're looking for the nutshell so you can move on and just go there already, here it is:

I've been to many of the waxing places in Portland in my many years there, and Urban Waxx is hands down, THE BEST WAX you will find. Reasonably priced, amazingly-wonderful staff, non-intimidating environment and consistent! Boom. Done.

The less nutshelled version:

When I found UrbanWaxx a year or two ago, it was after a long string of tried places, bad waxes, money spent and frustration. Part of the problem was that if I happened to find a place that was decent, I'd go back again and it would end up being awful. We're talking, spilled wax, bruises (!) and messy work. So, it goes without saying that my 1st experience at Urban was stellar but the real 5 star quality was when I returned for a second (and 3rd and 4th...) time and received the same awesome service. SOLD! Ok, so this is all well and good, but let me tell you why this place is really a solid-gold-5-star-excellent-trophy of a waxing joint.

1. They remember me and what I'm up to. It's lovely to not have to come up with the "small talk" that one comes up with when someone is up in your "business" ripping hair out by the follicles. Mindy and Adriana were always on point, asking about my latest job or dating stuff, remembering where we left off. Nice.

2. Professionalism. For being as carefree and welcoming as this place is, every single waxer (I've been to most of them) is extremely professional, efficient and detail oriented. AND, in the rare occasion I wasn't completely happy with the wax, they brought me back in, free of charge and tidied it up. (Only happened once.)

3. They put you at ease. I may sound like someone that has been waxed a lot (and maybe I have! :) ) But, the first several times, especially the 1st Brazilian, I was a bucket of nervousness. They put me at ease and cracked a surprisingly funny joke, always acknowledging my worries, but never letting them get away from me.

4. SHEER AWESOMENESS. Ok, this is above and beyond here people. Parking in NW isn't always fun, and one time, while in a gigantic hurry I threw my car into reverse without looking and straight-up backed into the car behind me. The car happened to be the owner of Urban Waxx's. Who also happened to be standing right there. F! She took a look as I was chewing off my hand, and said "Eh, that's what bumpers are for!" Are you joking me??? (I didn't do any major damage, but still, that is truly goes to show the nature of the people you will find at Urban Wax.)

And finally. 5! I recently moved from Portland to Los Angeles and asked them for recommendations in LA. Shannon (Owner, yes, the car one) didn't know of any off the top of her head, but did the research for me and emailed me a day later with her suggestions. THAT has to be one of the most thoughtful, helpful and kind follow-through from a business I have ever received.

To wrap this up: Mindy: the best Brazilian ever. Adriana: BEST BEST BEST lip waxer ever. (Man, the things I'm revealing about myself to write this review...) Shannon: Any business that involves customer service should take notes from you.

Urban Waxx. These ladies are in the waxing business. Its the best wax in Portland. Possibly in the world. Too much? Probably not.

I was worried for nothing! SO HAPPY!. I was really kind of freaked out about getting a brazilian because I myself am an Esthetician and have heard horror stories but it was all for nothing! Megan was awesome! She made me feel as comfortable as I could possibly be with no pants on, and it didnt hurt nearly as much as I was expecting. I will never go back to shaving! Thank you!!!

THE BEST WAX I'VE EVER HAD....seriously. My first experience at Urban Waxx was amazing. Highly recommend to both women and men (especially men, you need it). No need to be worried or scared....they make you feel really comfortable and the Brazilian wax is really not that painful (could be the tequila shot, but, based on all the other places I've been to in NYC, LA, Chicago, SF & Seattle....nothing beats Urban Waxx.

Great Waxing - best ever!. If you need anything waxing, this is the place to go. Great staff, friendly and professional every single time (no off days).

Mindy is my gal and I don't hesitate to recommend her and Urban Waxx, even to my mom!

Well worth the drive and the stress of parallel parking for a dunce like me from suburbia.

I feel good! na na na na na na na. I've wanted to wax for years, but never had the guts. I've walked by UW many times and finally got the courage up to make an appointment. I love the convenience of booking online. The receptionist called about a week before my appointment to answer any questions I may have and put my mind at ease, knowing that it was my first time. I walked in, the place was warm and smelled great, and I was greeted with a glass of wine (which made everything go a little bit easier, I'm sure). The design esthetic is so hip and urban and I love that they support local artists by displaying and selling their wares. I only waited a couple of minutes (and I think that was because Shannon was letting me have time to drink my wine). Now, dropping trow 5 seconds after you meet someone seems like it would be incredibly weird and uncomfortable, but Shannon put me completely at ease and I really didn't think anything of it. We carried on a nice conversation throughout my leg, Brazilian, and lip wax (except for the couple of times I had to catch my breath) and it was all done before I knew it- no more than 30 or 40 minutes. The whole process was so much easier than I had anticipated and, honestly, fairly comfortable. It didn't hurt that she kept telling me that I was being a "rockstar" :o) I walked out feeling strangely empowered and almost 'high' (again, I'm sure the wine helped). I'm so glad I finally did it, however, I'm afraid I might be hooked, now! I look and feel great! Thanks, Shannon!!
