Before you sign up, negotiate a termination that doesn't force you to pay for extra months after you leave--for any reason.
Great full-service gym, especially for young kids.
My husband, my two children, and I have been members of BAC for over a year and I love this gym. Yes, it is a bit pricey but we use so many of the programs that it really makes the membership fee more than worth the price.
We are there virtually every day because they have so many great programs. The best part is the instructors. Zumba with Orlando is just so much fun and I have really enjoyed Body Combat with Jasmin and Hayley as well. They are all so motivating and they really seem to enjoy teaching the classes. I'm addicted to those classes and this is the first time that I can honestly say that I love going to the gym to workout!
We also cannot say enough about Mike, who is one of the swimming instructors. My two young children have taken group and private lessons with Mike. They love Mike and their swimming has improved tremendously. The swim lessons are also much cheaper than the lessons that we used to pay for at a private swim school. BAC also has a swim club as a next step for kids who have progressed through the swim lesson levels and my daughter has enjoyed participating in that activity. Her coach, John Carl, is terrific and is very good with the kids - firm but sweet.
I could go on and on - from the good food they serve in the bistro to the fun summer camp that my children loved.
Of course no gym is perfect - the outdoor pool is small and is packed with screaming children during the summer - fine with me since I have two young children but maybe not ideal for the adult who wants to lounge by the pool in peace. The family changing room has a seriously musty smell and I wish they had more areas that kids between ages 7-13 could use. But overall, we have been very satisfied with the many programs and classes that we have used at BAC.
Pricey for absolutely no reason.
I have moved around quite a bit - NYC, Chicago, San Fran., Seattle, Houston... well you get the idea. I've been a gym member for over 20yrs so now that I've given you my reference point, here we go:
My friend is a long time member here so I tagged along on her free guest passes a couple of times to see why on earth this gym is so expensive. For monthly membership due of $75+, I honestly expected to be WOW-ed. A previous reviewer mentioned this place reminded her/him of Tualatin Hill Rec Center - I have to say that it's not THAT bad, but it did remind me of an OLD and unpopular Bally's club (some clubs are popular so they get updated while others are pretty much ignored by the Bally's management).
Their group exercise room is horrible; there is no dedicated ceiling (it opens up to the track) making the acoustics WORSE than any community rec center or YMCA so you can't understand what the instructor is saying (imagine a fast food drive thru... multiply that by 5).
When you're walking/running on the track, the cooking smell from the cafeteria drifts up there (depending on what they're cooking, it'll make you either hungry or nauseated). Their yoga and some other classes are offered in a walk-in closet size room right next to that little cafe (what idiot designed the building's layout anyway?)
The pool, jacuzzzi, sauna, etc area is VERY underwhelming (I've seen better set up in a downtown apartment building). The women's locker room is moldy smelling, dingy and not all that clean.
If I had any doubt on my first time there, my 2nd visit confirmed my first impression: very, incredibly disappointing and they can NOT justify their ridiculously expensive membership fees.
It's a So So Club. Staff at the front desk is friendly, but not any of the rest of the staff. They pretty much don't acknowledge any members. The classes are so so. Most of the teachers are tired and dull. The only exception is Zumba with Orlando!! He really rocks the room with high energy and mucho enthusiasm. I really don't care about free Q tips or hair spray like in another review. Not a family club, as there are no activities for school aged kids. The outdoor pool is a baby pool. Women's locker room is smelly and vanity area can be really dirty in the AM.
superb club. I love this club, if it had tennis I would love it even more. The hygeine is incredbily, the walking track is superb, the classes are fun and varied especially the Zumba with Orlando, one doesn't even realize one has moved ALL the muscles and burned a ton of calories it is SO FUN. The service is great with member appreciation events and daily great attention. The spa is amazing. The bistro food is divine. Overall an amazing value for our area . My husband and young adult male family members love all the weight room and other classes so this really appeals to all ages, genders, and interests.
Beautiful atmosphere. I first joined I signed up for personal training & got stood up 3 times in a row. I just gave up on the idea of personal training & just got bored with the club. It is high quality machines just not enough & if you want to relax privately in the pool without kids in the summer, forget it, that will never happen. The prices are also too steep & you never quite get to enjoy the entire gym anyways.
mmmmmmmmmmm. They have very unreasonable policy, that kids under 7 must be put in the stroller to track with you on the track (so do kids under 7 must be put in the stroller to go to kindergarten????????), and kids under 7 are not allowed in the woman's lock room which has the steam room and sauna room, even the kids just going in take a shower. so if you have kids under 7 you probably don't want to join this club, because you never get chance to go to the steam room and sauna room.
HIGH END GYM EXPERIENCE!. If your not interested in going to a dirty meat market gym, then Bethany Athletic Club is for you! It's extremley clean, well maintained, and has nice staff. It does not feel stinky or grungy at all. It has ammenities such as towels, lotion, q-tips, hair driers, lockers with built in locks. All the things that other gyms sometimes lack. Plus there is state of the art equipment and a sports bar and spa! Also there is a towel boy there that is kinda hot! Hey, whatever gets you to the gym right!?
Greatest family oriented club, great group classes, well maintained. This is one of the best athletic clubs that I have been to in a long time. It is extremely clean and well maintained. All the staff are friendly and greet me by name. I love all the classes they offer and the have a lot of programs to cater tp the kids that are around. They support all of the members they have a member board that welcomes all the new members who just joined and then the board also include what they call superstars which are members and kids that have done great things in the clubs such as taking a bunch of classes or lost a signifcant amount of weight. They also have a great support staff of personal trainers. I love this club and all of it amenaties.
