Even early on a Monday night, Toro Boro is brimming with chatty customers in low lighting, sampling the Paella Toro with chicken, clams, chorizo, shrimp, and mussels while the small kitchen clanks and bustles. Take someone you would like to impress--think a future mother-in-law, or a promising prospect from OKCupid.
Even movie stars have had to wait for Spanish inspired tapas by John Gorham. Bring 7 or more and get a reservation, or come before 6pm for small plates like Grilled Moorish Lamb Chops or Chicken & Clams Cataplana.
Somehow, 7 days a week, 360-something days a year, this venerable tapas joint STILL fills to capacity every single night. So plan accordingly, and consider a cocktail at The Secret Society upstairs if the wait’s particularly egregious.

had a lot of fun here with a friend of mine. came in late at night and found before ourselves a packed restaurant; despite showing up five minutes before close, we were promptly sat. food came out quickly, but there was no evidence it was rushed. my cocktail was made properly (manhattan) and so was my friend's (dirty martini). paella was easily the best, though the (bacon? prosciutto? cannot recall) wrapped dates were an apparent second.
nothing was lacking. we tried four or five dishes; service and food was wonderful. thanks!
I love going to this restaurant. Bringing friends to also enjoy is fun and exciting to introduce them to a fabulous restaurant.
The price is low also.
I?m very picky about Spanish food. Either it?s authentic or gourmet. Torro Bravo advertises as Spanish, but the reality is that it?s gourmet Spanish.
It seems they use the same spices over and over in different dishes.
I can?t say the Spanish tortilla was any good, because it didn?t look and taste anything like the true authentic version.
I?ll come here if I?m in the neighborhood and if I?m hungry.
Overrated. Been to this restaurant a few times. It was best when it first opened, but twice that I have been back it was terrible. The food is actually really gross and looks and tastes very unhealthly. The restaurant is so loud you cannot talk to anyone including the waiters without using a yelling voice. I can't stand this place and will never go again.
Good food & ambiance on first try. My husband and I decided to check the place out at 8pm on a Thursday night. Despite being packed & being told about a 30-minute wait for seats, we were actually seated rapidly (about 2-3 minutes). Ambiance: the lighting is dim which is sufficient for dinner w/ friends or a date; I wouldn't recommend it for families with small/ younger children. It's fairly loud (probably because it was full) so I had a hard time hearing my husband speak, although I may just be hard of hearing. Food/drinks: We shared a pitcher of sangria, finished it but I don't feel any effects. I wonder if there was any alcohol in it whatsoever. The sauteed yellowfoot mushroom on griddled bread is delicious ($7)! Loved that. The whole petrale sole w/ olives, capers, roasted garlic, lemons was average ($10)- honestly my mom makes better fish. The sole's flavor was underwhelming. We also ordered a dish w/ butternut squash w/ crumbled cheese was tasty, despite being a bit oversalted. Our dessert was fabulous- a caramel something. Really delicious with warm sweet caramel on top of the fluffly stuff below. Cost: Our bill was $45+tip. We were stuffed, probably because we snacked before decided to eat out. I felt like it was reasonably priced. Service: The hostess greeted and seated us quickly; the server was helpful in recommending items; food+drinks were served in good intervals. Overall, we would have to try eating hear a couple more times, but at the moment, I do recommend it.
The food way outwieghs the bad. The only bad thing I could say about this place is the price....Having said that, the server could have served our food on the floor and we would have still thought it was outstanding. Service is good even when busy, and the atmosphere is fitting for the cuisine.
Amazing food - tasty and different.. My hubby and I went here for the first time recently. We'd heard great things and were not disappointed. We went on a Friday night and it was busy - always a good sign. We waited probably 15-20 minutes and then got a seat at the bar. The bartender was helpful on describing the dishes when asked. We loved the small plates - it allowed the opportunity to taste so many different dishes. Toro's menu was expansive and I think every tapa we ordered was something we'd never eaten before. Every one was amazing. The portions were decent sized for sure and perfectly seasoned. We cannot wait to go back. Not sure if they accept reservations, but will try that next time if we go with friends.
Heavenly food, horrible hostess. My husband and I went on Friday evening at 7:30pm to celebrate a job promotion. We were not greeted by the hostess who was dismissive and rude. We had to wait over one hour for our table, but thankfully we ordered some appetizers and cocktails. We were finally seated and the waitress was friendly and helpful. We ordered about 7 tapas and every dish was delicious. Great flavor, seasoning, and presentation. After our 2nd tapas came out we forgot about the wait and the rude hostess. We would come back again, but not on the weekends or at that time.
drowning in oil and salt. Didn't have the wait issue that a lot of reviewers report. Got a table for two on a Friday night in about 10 minutes. The problem was...the food. Whoa! Hold the oil, fellas! We ordered six dishes and most of them were just drenched in oil. The corn on the cob tasted like it had been sitting in oil all day. How can you ruin corn on the cob? The menu was pretty interesting, sangria was good, but I left the restaurant feeling kind of ill. I had that feeling one has after Thanksgiving dinner--like I needed to lie down and let my body recover from the assault.
All right but vastly overrated.
It got some fine reviews so now if you get there at opening you can have seat; otherwise wait one and one half hours. But the tapas are ordinary and certainly not authentic. They are tasty but the food is far more Spanish
at lolo despite what the uninformed reviewer wrote. The squid ink fideo paella was excellent and the food tastes good but nothing mouth-watering or memorable. They would rather die than speak Spanish to the customers so it is very Americanized and I suspect the crowds are so thick because of the hype. The service
is kind of brusque which is all right is Spain since I don't have to tip there. Try it for sure (at 5 PM sharp) and
see for yourself. Also, don't go with a vegetarian (I corrected this the third time).
