There's a Reason It Was Nominated for Best Hotel Bar. Clyde serves some of the best drinks in Portland and its burger is up there with Gruner as the best in the city. There are always great microbrews on tap and a lively atmosphere.

Unimpresed. Okay, call me an "amateur" for my less than stellar review of Clyde Commons, but for what it's worth I've been to tons of restaurants in the Portland area and there's nothing at CC that would entice me into a return visit over the plentitude of good restaurants in the area. I suppose if meat and potatoes is what you're looking for then this is the place to come to, but I found my steak and side dishes utterly bland. As well, my date and I had to stare at a couple directly across from us at our picnic table who had no interest in conversation. That's fine, but I would've rather had a table to ourselves. Their selection of cocktails was not to my liking either. Not romantic by any means, loud, more suited for large groups of people as the tables are huge. Service was pretty good though. I didn't spend a fortune here, but I left feeling a bit jipped. I was kind of glad just to get the hell out of there. Call me an amateur reviewer if you will, but that was my experience. I likely won't return as there are better choices out there IMO.

Pleasssseeee. An earlier review, "won't be back", is what makes me worry about reviews by amateurs.

This is a wonderful restaurant with a solid energetic kitchen and vibe. I had the crispy lamb shank a couple of weeks ago and it was one of the finest meals I've had in Portland.

If you dig meat, go to Olympic Provisions one of Clyde's partners restaurants on the east side.

Fun for late night drinks. Went to Clyde Common late night for after dinner drinks at the bar. Fun crowd. Drinks were a little expensive, but all in all an enjoyable spot. Not sure I would want to have dinner there, since all the seating is communal, but could be OK for lunch.

won't be back. After a round of nice salads, I had the pasta, my sister had the lamb, and my husband had the skirt steak. My pasta was good. My sister thought the lamb was a little on the salty side, and it was unevenly cooked (a skewer—some pieces were cooked medium rare, some were still cold at the center), but she ate everything that wasn’t raw, and liked it. My husband’s skirt steak was too salty to be edible. It was nasty. He flat couldn’t eat it. None of us could eat it. When the waitress asked how everything was, my husband told her that the steak was too salty. She said she’d go talk to the kitchen. When she came back, she said that the problem was not that the steak was over-seasoned, but rather “our food is too salty for your taste.” The remedy was not to replace the inedible steak, but to comp us a dessert. We accepted the dessert, which was good. They ended up taking a salad off the bill, which was nice. However, we’re now home, having paid our $110 bill, and my still-hungry husband is rummaging through the refrigerator trying to find something to eat, as he could not eat his $23 steak. What we learned tonight: Clyde Common serves every single dish seasoned to perfection, and if you think it’s too salty, the problem is actually your taste, not the dish. One inedible entrée out of three may seem unacceptable, especially at that price point, but according to Clyde Common it was actually our fault for perceiving the entrée to be inedible. We won’t be back, as there are a lot of restaurants in Portland more interested in satisfying customers than in defending self-proclaimed perfection. If you enjoy your meal at Clyde Common, congratulations! You, too, have perfect taste. If you do not, now you’ll know without asking: it’s not them, it’s you.

Good for Quiet Birthdays. Went to Clyde Common for a 30 something birthday and had a great time. The tables upstairs are perfect for couples. The wine list was nice and the portions did not overwhelm. The food was great and our server was attentive without being overbearing. I'll be back again soon.

Rudeness rather than Reservations. Clyde Common is unique because, when I called, the boy I spoke to told me he was "very busy" and hung up before I could make a reservation. Guess I won't get a table there... oh well!

Generally excellent, innovative food, but FAR TOO NOISY!. Hanger steak was excellent; carrot gnuti far too bland. BMOC drink was excellent; "Beginning of the End" was not.

The service was knowledgeable, but a bit slow, even tho' restaurant wasn't full. Five of the six dinners in our party were excellent (hanger steak, trout, lamb, pasta), but the carrot gnuti was bland, and a very small serving for $20.
