A delightful dinner – we have had dinner on 3 occassions at Pinnochio and each time was wonderful.. The decor is pleasant, it's not to loud and the wait staff have always been very accomodating. We order the calamari everytime and it is always crispy and tasty, not chewy or fishy. We have also enjoyed braised short ribs and the risotto. Friends of our ordered the baked lasagna and no one was disappointed. As far as the wine list goes, no matter where you go it is always going to be inflated so we always bring our own and just pay the corkage fee.
This restaurant has closed. – This restaurant has closed and is no more. The bar was lovely and the drinks were fabulous. The owner and his family were superb. Although the location was wonderful and the ambience was lovely, the food was fairly mundane. I am very sorry to see it go.
Great date location – Pinocchio Bar provide reliable, clean, good service, and a nice atmoshphere. It is really nice to meet a date in the bar, and then go to the restaurant
Surprised at the good reviews? – I am perplexed. It's like night and day with the good and bad reviews. Only one explanation, the staff or owner are writing false reviews, maybe perhaps? No one would stoop that low. A good establishment would rest is laurels, spend it's time improving constructive criticism, right?
Ok, so who ever wrote the good reviews, perhaps we ate at different establishments.
My (certified 100% truthful) review:
This place has spent a great deal of time and money on the atmosphere. The decor is entertaining and the place is "not bad". Comfortable chairs and booths to sit in. Service is ok to quiet pleasant. Wine list is over priced, VERY, but so is 90% of Downtown restaurants. On to the reason I am giving it 1 star: FOOD
The food was so bad we left 1/2 our entrees. The steak was so dried out, I ordered it rare, that I had 2 glasses of wine to choke it down. Yes, I did tell the server it was over cooked and she was apologetic, but didn't offer to do anything, said she would let the manager know. nothing happened. My dinner partner had a seafood dish, it was VERY fishy, as though it was sitting around, it just had that not so fresh fish feeling. Yes, we also reported this with the dry hunk of meatsicle. nothing was done.
When we left a tip, it was 18% then realized that was too much since the server was not proactive, nor did she follow up to see if the manager on duty ever checked in with us. It's not worth fighting for, we just wanted to get out of there and run to the nearest anyplace but there.
It's unfortunate, but sometimes you just don't have what it takes to be in the business or it's the wrong time. It just felt like this place would have done great in 1952.
Very good appetizers and great servers. Thank you for a lovely evening – I went to Pinocchio last Friday for the Portland Opera opening night party. The appetizers were creative, well executed, and plentiful. The servers came by frequently, were very pleasant and knowledgeable about the food they served. Who can ask for more?
Awesome for lunch! – Stopped by the place last week with some co-workers for lunch and loved it. Thanks for a great meal.
Good Service, Great Atmosphere... Even Better Food! – I can promise you this... you will not be disappointed. We have been here a few times already and our experience has only gotten better with each visit.
All of the appetizers and main course offerings we have tried have been fantastic but for desert, I would suggest their seasonally adjusted Panna-Cotta (my wife likes it best with the fresh berries).
This place is one of the few Portland area restaurants that the Owner personally stops by your table to ask how your food is. We were lucky enough to catch him with a bit of time on his hands for one of his stories from his time spent in New York... see if you can get Michael to tell you the story about the Ragu that a certain celebrity traded for some work (he's a great storyteller).
Exquisite dining experience before and after the theatre. Also excellent catering. – The atmosphere is friendly and upscale. The food is delicious and authentic. Drinks are outstanding. Children are treated with respect should their parents treat them to a fancy meal after seeing Tears of Joy Puppet Theatre at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts' Winningstad Theatre just kiddi corner across the Park Blocks.
Warn atmosphere, fun decor, alive food that will not dissappoint from the pizza to the delicious fish and steak entree's. – Pinniochio's is an experience that must be enjoyed over and over. The wait staff is professional, clear with explaning the menu, provides insightful recommendations on wine and food which is authentic, delivered in a timely way and is just perfect. I do not remember the name of the chef, but the food from the ravioli to the authentic italian delicacies are an experience that is joyful whether you are dining alone or are with a loved one that you want to simply enjoy the beauty of the food and sevice. I highly recommend the food and the ambiance of this restaurant. I have visitied three times while traveling through Oregon, Iam a native New Yorker and this restaurant would flourish in NY as well.
The bar is one of the most impressive and warm/fun presentations I have seen in many years. The bartenders are alive with suggestions and if you just want a club soda with lemon or lime or a strenuous cocktail, the life at the Pinnochio bar just makes you feel good. That is about all I can say and I most definitely give this restaurant the highest praise and the best restaurant I visited in Portland period.
Remember to have Nonna's ravioli when it is on the menu. Keep the fact that you can eat light or heavier dependent on your mood and you can get to a show on time as long as you let the staff know your intention. It is just a joy of a restaurant and Michael B. and Vanessa B. are complete professional's that will take very good care of your experience. I have dined with business associates, recommended the restaurant to Portland local's I know, and to my family that travel to Portland. Pinnochio is a very clear choice for very good food and an enjoyable experience in all ways. PPet
Best EVERYTHING!!! – I am from Columbia, South Carolina and I was in Portland with my family and my director of the pageant title I help at the time, Miss Earth United States 2006, and we ate at Pinocchio... OH MY HEAVENS!!! Absolutely DELICIOUS, and the service was amazing- we felt so welcome, and Michael Bazzani, the owner, personally greeted each table in the restaurant each time we were there (we went back 2 more times after our first visit because it was that incredibe!) and by the time we left we felt like family!! We get cravings for Pinocchio over here on the East Coast and wish that we had one here! Keep up your great service, work, and food! Hope to see y'all sometime again soon! = ) ~Greg, Wanda, and Amanda Pennekamp
REAL Italian Food – My husband and I have been frequenting Pinocchio since it opened a year ago. We are from the San Francisco Bay Area and quite selective about restaurants. Pinocchio has it all: amazing food, great ambiance, and personable, attentive staff. Whether we come alone, with our children, or (as we did a few months ago for our graduation from medical school) a group of friends and family, the people at Pinocchio always aim to please. This new jewel is becoming more and more popular; there's a reason why!
