Super Happy. I Just started my job with with the City of Beaverton. I did not know of many Thai spots near by but heard about Thai Derm from a co-worker. Being a huge Thai food lover I went in to the restaurant with my hopes at a moderate level. Wow, was I impressed on my first visit! The food here is terrific. I never order from the menu, I just order some of my favorites and boy did they deliver. I have now been back on many occasions with friends. The staff is awesome and Thai Derm is definitely a must visit!…
Good food.
One of the better Thai food places around Hillsboro/Beaverton area.
These are the items that we tried:
Tom Yum soup (extra spicy): this was real good.
Chicken Satay was good.
Dungeness Crab Fried Rice was good too... I experimented with the item, Sizzling Seafood, and it was surprisingly good (wasn't like Mexican Sizzling Fajita style), but good in it's own way.
The Salt & Pepper Calamari (typically can't-go-wrong-item) wasn't great.…
Excellent Thai Food. Great food, great specials. We love getting the chicken satay, coconut shrimp, and a variety of the entrees. This restaurant has a great atmosphere and seating style. Staff is friendly and accommodating.…
Thai Derm- the most unfortunately named, good Thai place.
I've been going to Thai Derm since they opened.
(They used to be Siam) and have a great relationship with the owners so I can't comment on the service because they are super nice to me.
Thai Derm is a really fun place to bring a group of people to experience their traditional-style dining room (make sure nobody wears a skirt! the low-slung tables are a bit difficult to navigate- just throw your leg over and free-fall into your place) or a funky and unusual place for a date (one of which wore a skirt- no need to say more).
Without exception everyone I've introduced to the place has commented "That's good Pad Thai". I also like their stir-fried dishes (Cashew Crunch) and curries. green Curry Fried Rice is a real standout. They have an ever-changing 'specials' menu which never fails to feature dishes I've -never- seen elsewhere.
Here's the deal- Portland is crowded with Thai places- throw a rock and you'll hit one. Thai Derm (even with their unfortunate name that evokes dermatitis) is better than average- and stands out in it's-
1. Dining room- very elegant and unique.
2. Great Pad Thai and unique specials
3. Endless refills of Thai Iced Coffee and Tea (normally about $3 a pop elsewhere)…
Wretched service, good noodles.
Boy, this place is hard to rate. Personally, I will never return. Yet I cannot wholly condemn the place, as their noodles are choice. As other reviewers have noted, strive at all costs to avoid the
"angry lady". She has ignored requests for help, added a larger tip after we have left the restaurant (someone did anyway - just love seeing that bank statement), and generally made us feel unwelcome. The service was so bad, the last time we ate there, that I simply decided never to return. Why should I? when better noodles can be had at Typhoon and better curry at Rama Thai? And better service pretty much ANYWHERE?
Sigh. It's a shame, as Thai Derm has a nice atmosphere and good food.…
