Well, I guess I had a much better time than the two above, I went to Subterra for the first time on an invitation from a friend to his Bday party this past saturday, I didn't even know it was there before. We got there at like 11 probably, maybe 10:45? The place was packed with a decent line, not too long. My buddy had put us on the list for his Bday so we didn't have to wait long before the security guy pushed us inside, he didn't say much, I guess that could be taken as rude. The place is cool as hell when you first walk in, there's a small dance floor right in front of you with a hotty gogo dancer and a staircase going up to the vip area between these big arches and one whole wall of the club is metal, it looks badass, I haven't been to solo yet but cooler than the rest of the clubs downtown like mcfaddens and barracuda. We spent most of the night upstairs where you can look over the downstairs crowd and there's more room to dance. Obviously as a group of guys, we were checkin' out the girls and that was my favorite part about subterra, there were more hot chicks dressed up than most of the clubs I've been too except maybe aura. The cool pic on this website of the white booths is actually downstairs, I figured that was the vip lounge but it isn't, the vip lounge is pretty cool too though. One of the owners came by and gave us a free bottle of champagne for my buddy's Bday, that was pretty cool. We all had a good time, music was good, normal club music, I didn't go in the back techno room, not really my thing. I guess that's it, I'd go back, it was fun. later

Pros: cool style, lots of cute girls, gogo dancers

Cons: could use a main dance floor area

I went to Subterra on a Saturday night with a group of girlfriends. I am very familiar with the Portland Club scene. My friends and I were on the VIP list. So was everyone else in the club/in line. The VIP line was very long, and there was no one in the 'regular' line. The bouncers went out of their way to treat the club goers with disrespect. They were unnecessarily rude, as if they were bouncing a club in NYC that was full of celebrities and they were hired to keep the 'regular' people out. This is Portland, OR and that kind of attitude does not impress people here. Once inside there is no distinction between the dance floors and the other sections of the club. I saw in the review above that the extra $10 gets you upstairs where there is more room, etc... Luckily I was able to be upstairs for free, but the upstairs is not bigger or better then anywhere else in the club. It was packed and there was no dance floor. If you do not have a spot in the VIP seating area (luckily we did) there is nowhere to set a glass, etc...you have to work your way up to the bar. There was only one bartender serving the entire second floor and so it was a good 30-45 minute wait for a drink. Even though it was packed, the bartender did remember my name, my face and my drink order. She was the only good thing about the club. But don't try to order food, the servers act just like the bouncers. The music was okay, but it sounded like a mixed CD, not a DJ even though there was someone standing in the DJ booth acting like they were spinning. This club was one of the worst experiences I have had in Portland. It is not worth your time or money. It is probably a good club if you are young (21-22) and have no other experiences for comparison, but if you have been anywhere else in town you will most likely elect not to return to this club.

Pros: There are no pros to this club.

Cons: Employees with poor attitudes, no space for dancing.
