Portland >Crown Room
Horrible Staff!!!! Do NOT go here!!!!!. I was at the establishment on Wednesday night and a bartender by the name of Taylor, tall man, with a buzz cut, demanded that my sister, who on a $10 tab tipped $2 a 20% tip, that the tip was not sufficient enough and demanded that she tip him $5.... a 50% tip for his terrible service. he was rude and bullied her into it. when i came back from the bathroom she was very distraught at the was way he had treated her. I will NEVER return and will tell everyone i know Never to go there!!!!! Horrible place!!! the bartenders are awful people for demanding tips they don't deserve!!!!
DO NOT GO HERE!!!! THUG SECURITY WILL ROB OR ASSAULT YOU!!.
So i have been throwing shows at this place EVERY WED for 2 and a half years. The owner and staff are all good people. HOWEVER, there security is COMPLETELY out of line!!! They frisk you at the door, reach in your pockets and rob you of anything they can, are totaly disrespectful, assault women and go around shining flashlights under the booths to look up girls skirts! Roll around shining flashlights in ppls face, yell at them while smoking outside continuously to get behind the rope like you are in grade school and when the lights come on are very pushy and rude to people to get out.
I have brought this to the owners attn NUMEROUS times they are well aware of there securitys actions....
I have been speaking up against them for months trying to let the owner know how his patrons have been treated. How come nothing was done? So it came to this.....
Last tues i was frisked hardcore even being a promoter there. My nutts were grabbed, shoes and hat were made taken off and and made me take my gum and chapstick and receipt out of my pocket. Then inside the doors guys brother (security) is just eyeing me down like a madman, so i tell my girl look at this guy mugging me, she turns around he immediately heads my way and is steppin on my toes sayin "you got something to say to me?" i ask him to step aways and tell him to get out of my face cuz hes was nose to nose with me. He took a swing, my girl jumped between us with her hands in the air yelling NO NO NO! Then he grabbed her by the face and threw her and proceeded to come after me. he ended up getting my leg and tripped me to the floor following it up with a kick to the ribs. I had to go to the hospital that night i have a cracked sternum and clavicle. Its ALL on camera and the thing that shocks me is this guy still works here.
UNLESS YOU FEEL LIKE GETTING ROBBED OR BEAT UP OR TREATED LIKE DIRT ID STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!
great bar/great music. I have been coming to The Crown Room for quite a while. The bar staff is great and they serve quality drinks. The sound system will rocks you away and the music bumps. I have read the other reviews and I have to disagree with one thing in particular. The Security is some of the best in Portland. I have seen these guys deal with many situations and they always do the right thing. They have a hard job to do and they do it well. Before you judge security try and figure out why they are in the situation in the first place. Some people can't behave when they drink and you only know half the story. They have saved me from a drunk trying to fight me because i wanted him to leave my girlfriend alone. The new game room is a great addition to the bar. I recommend this bar to anyone who wants to have fun and can act like a grown up. leave your drama at the door and come have fun.
WARNING* bouncer is a psycho. One bouncer with double pierced ears is a psycho. He assaulted a women and challenged her to fight like a man. That bouncer is so outrageous & unhinged he'll be in jail soon enough. The owner better step up. Some of the other bouncers were relatively professional but that one guy is crazy. See other reviews on this board. CrownRoom is off limits until they hire proffessional security
Editorial Review. This ritzy hangout is an old fashioned throw back but modernly twisted with crunchy DJ sets.
Why all the hype?. After reading such great reviews, my friends and I decided to check it out last weekend. Not what we were expecting. The drinks were great, the food was okay, the servers were outstanding... but that was about it. The bouncers were kinda weird, a little pushy. But I definitly won't go back. Boring, no excitement. Needs to be updated to even compete with the other bars in the area.
watch out for the security in the scarf!.
It was a great place, the music was awesome and the drinks were perfect. we came in a big group and i reserved tables, everyone had a good time. until we were trying to get everyone together so we can leave.. im standing there with a friend of mind.. when i got pushed out of the way ( 5'3 little girl).. the security in the scarf tackled my friend from the back.. then he got taken out.. we felt like we got singled it out quite a bit.. we spend a lot of money that.. then another security guard gave me a good open hand to the jaw.. i dont know why. the owner was nice and very respectful. he apologized to me for what happened.. but...... my warning.. watch out for the skinny security with the retractable mase at this belt and his flying scarf!. put a beanie on him and call him a lawn gnome.. i got checked out and now have TMJD. thanks! lol.. other then that... it was pretty fly!
i had pretty high standards for this place.. and yea a little dissapointing. but everyone has their own experiences and opinions.
Awesome lounge. The Crown Room is a great addition to the Chinatown area, even though it is quickly becoming not a Chinatown. The interior of The Crown Room looks great, like an awesome 70's lounge with all kinds of cushy seats and such. If you go there ask for Kent and request the El Chupacabra shot, it is a great drink!
Best New Club in Old Town. Man, I love this place. I?ve been going to the Crown Room since it opened. The drinks and food are excellent and the service is impeccable. The best part is the atmosphere. The Crown Room evokes class from a bygone era. The big intimate booths are perfect for happy hour socializing with coworkers, or for sinking into later at night when the DJs take over and the dance floor is pumping. Another bonus is that the Crown Room is huge. It easily accommodates a lot of people without ever feeling too crowded. Old Town really needed a classy alternative to some of the other clubs in the area, and the Crown Rooms is definitely it.
Up and Coming. I played a show at the Crown last Thursday. I can't wait to come back. The food, staff and service were all in good standing. I look forward to seeing this venue gain a space alongside some of Portland's more stylish rooms. The owner, Luis, was very open to suggestions and quite a nice cat. I look forward to a return engagement. Barry Hampton of the Triple Grip/Julian's Ride.
