My boyfriend and I live in the neighborhood and were excited to try the new restaurant. The only positive thing I have to say about Leonardo's is that the interiors are fab. The food however was more than disappointing. My Boyfriend's Chicken Parmesan was no doubt frozen and re-heated in a microwave. The pasta I had was mushy and drenched in this gooey cheese sauce that I'm sure came out of a can. Needless to say, my stomach hurt until the next morning. The salad dressing was Wishbone at best. To top it off, the wine pour compared to that of a tasting, AKA sip. Italians take pride in their food preparation, fresh ingredients and ultimate presentation. It is sad to go to an Italian restaurant and have such poor quality food. If you want true Italian go to Piazza Italia or Fratelli's. Portland is full of amazing chefs who put out wonderful food. If you are a foodie, don't waste your time. If you like the Olive Garden, Leonardo's might be for you.

A little taste of Italy right in the midst of the Pearl! Absolutely delightful, can't wait to come back when the weather is warm to sit outside and enjoy all that Leonardo's can offer the senses. The food is precise...not overly done, not too artsey, just reasonable and prepared with care. Leonardo himself is just an adorable man. He greeted us himself and somehow remembered by name--by my voice, and welcomed us, found just the perfect spot (request the booth by the bar!), and just spent enough time making us feel special without being present "too much." The wine list is reasonable (I actually would have spent more but it wasn't necessary) and the wait staff was creative and willing to make whatever additions we had hoped for. Isn't this the way a dining experience should be? I love-love-love this place, and Leonardo, and only suggest that other restauranteurs find out why this place works...and then copy what you can. Enjoy!
