Great Place to Dance!.
So- I just went out this weekend, and after so many positive experiences, decided I NEEDED to write a review!
Before Barracuda- I had tried the Greek Cuisina (which is now closed) and Dirty (which completely lives up to it's name) and I wasn't really impressed with the Portland Scene. I was out one night with a friend, and we kept running into a nasty crowd everywhere we went, and he suggested Barracuda- I don't go out often, but it's been a staple ever since!
There aren't a lot of options for places to go out dancing, but Barracuda seems to blow the others out of the water!!
For starters, the door staff is always friendly and look like they enjoy their job, which is a good sign walking into a club. Next- They have ladies night every Friday, so it's free for girls up until midnight.
The dancefloor is huge, and the drinks are consistently good! They also have GoGo dancers on boxes throughout the club on Saturday nights, and these girls can actually dance! (not just booty shaking like most places)
Oh- and the mgr gives out prizes on stage all the time, so it makes it a fun and unique event each time you go! Plus- they have celebrities come and "host" parties from time to time, which makes for a good night.
My guy friends like going with because they've got pool tables upstairs too- so if you're tired of dancing, you can do something else.
I don't know if there coat check is open year round or not, but it's nice and I've never had an issue! Although the bar by the dancefloor is typically crowded, they have 4 bars throughout so it really doesn't take that long to get a drink! I usually hit up the one off to the left as soon as you walk in- it's hardly busy and the drinks are amazing!
The thing I really like is that the bathrooms are way cleaner than most! There is a girl who hands out towels and has candy, hairties, hairspray, safety pins, and whatnot (I think you have to tip for the stuff, but for a towel it's free) so it stays decently clean. My friend said they've got a guy in the men's bathroom too.
Oh- and I found out from the doorgirl that you can get VIP (no cover and full access upstairs and down) as long as you call in to the club before hand and ask if you can be added to the guestlist. They do have time restraints as to what time you need to be in by so it's free (Fridays-till 11pm for VIP, midnight if you're a girl and just groundfloor; and Saturdays- till 10 pm I think? ) And then if you are on that guestlist and come after- it's just $5- which is still the Cheapest on a saturday I've seen!
Anyway- all in all- this is a club that is a great place for going out dancing, and awesome for a girl's night out! :)
I highly recommend it!!
best club in town!.
I'm very surprised there aren't more reviews on here for Cuda - it's a popular place!
I've been going to Cuda since I was 21 (27 now!) and have consistently had a great experience. The bartenders are great, the drinks are good, the cover-price is always reasonable. They also offer lots of great deals (girls free on Fridays, drink specials, sometimes half-off tix in advance to parties).
I love that Cuda always hosts great theme parties, such as their Bad Santa party, glow-in-the-dark party, etc. I'm a sucker for themes! Their Halloween and NYE parties are the best in town (and I know - I've tried lots of other clubs).
They are open until 4am, which is great and they also offer food if you come early.
On weekends, it gets a great crowd, but you never have to wait in line for hours. The place is huge and well-ventilated, so it is not like a sauna, unlike some other clubs in town. They also have go-go dancers and VIP areas available to rent.
My only complaint is that I really miss the old DJ (the bald one with glasses - forgot his name!). The new DJ doesn't ever play my requests and is not quite as good as the past DJ, but he's still a lot better than DJs I've heard at other clubs.
Since I've been club-legal for 6 years now, I've been to several clubs in town, and I always end up leaving to go to Barracuda, where I know I will have a great time.
There is also very convenient parking just up the block - you can choose from a staffed parking lot or - my personal favorite - the SmartPark garage, which only charges a flat-rate of $6.
If you are looking for a fun place to go out and dance, dance, dance - hit up Cuda!
Oh yeah... gettin down to business at this joint.. Y'all better listen up right good now. This club be toppin the charts round here, m0f0. Mind y'all, the list ain't real long, but if you a vip like me you maybe gettin some action, like. Word up, brothas. check it up.
The barracuda club is my cozy fall back when I want to party. I usually get the VIP cabbana when I do go. It's nice because it's above the dance floor. My boyfriend doesn't dance so it's was good for him to be able to hang out. They have pool also and VIP does get their own bar, and their own bathroom. Ive never waited more than 2 minitues for either one. Also last time I was there, the VIP room next to us had these two girls "going at it". It was pretty hot. really hot actually and I'm a girl!
I haggle with the manager here so that I never pay full price for VIP. I have gotten it for free, $50 and $150 and it's been worth it every time as long as you have a large group and everyone throws down when it's more than $100.
I would check this place out fo'sho. The crowd is down to earth and not stuck up, and the staff has been nothing but awesome every time I come here, and are really there to help you have fun.
I always have a good time here, though I wish they would play more rap and hip-hop. I asked for Jay-z and Eminem and got denied. Other than that, great time.
Biggest Party in town!.
So I had never heard of this place and my friend who knew somebody, who knew somebody? Got us on the guest list for this party they were having last night. There were photographers all over the place, I felt like I was in some Vegas club with people posing on the photo wall and stuff. This place is huge! They have a gigantic balcony with pool tables and and great views of the dancefloor. Tons of hot girls there too dressed really nice! It took a few minutes to get a drink at the bar but the female bartender that helped me was super friendly and although she was obviously busy, took the time to say Hi and Thank you and didn't leave me feeling like I was bothering her. The music was good although I think the DJ talked a little bit too much on the microphone for my taste.
Overall it was a pretty good ratio of men to women, people were all having fun and even the big scary security guard with a mohawk turned out to be a big teddy bear!
The biggest negative for this area is parking, it took us about 15 minutes of driving around before we decided to just pay to park at the garage but overall we had a great time and will return very soon!
