LOVE LOVE LOVE. Really love this place....kick back with a book, a beautiful glass of vino and some snacks! Great for escaping moody Portland weather. And Amanda is a jewel.....She always knows what I want....sometimes before I even know it!
This narrow slice of a wine bar is an adventurous oenophile haven on North Mississippi..
In Short
This blink-and-you'll-miss-it wine bar's candlelight tables, drop-down antique lighting, and long wooden bar befits the style of an old world speakeasy, one where owner Amanda Prock curates a veritable world of wine. The emphasis is on Spanish and Italian wines though vintages from the likes of Portugal, Slovenia, Croatia, Chile, and beyond also crop up on the poetic menu. Such rarely seen finds pair perfectly with the café's lean selection of nibbles, including fried marcona almonds, cheese and salumi plates, Boquerones, and fresh-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies.
It's all about the wine. Lupa draws you in like an intimate cellar & Amanda Procks' passion for the wine keeps you here. Along with my mom & sister, we enjoyed a lovely bottle of 2004 Omaggio highly recommended by Amanda to celebrate my birthday. She took the time to inquire about what type of wine we tend to enjoy then hand-picked two bottles from her fantastic selection, gave us a wonderful description of each and we comfortably chose Omaggio from there. Along with our wine, we nibbled on pecorino & bread from Pearl Bakery. Lupa itself is small; like a long hallway with a couple tables on the sidewalk, seating at the bar as well as in the back. Candlelight and one wall covered with possibility after possibility make for a great date night or the perfect place to celebrate a birthday with a couple close friends. I'll be back; with my husband next time.
