Things are not always as they are portrayed. After spending 2 MONTHS reading reviews and searching for a new waxer I was happy to find a place that was open that worked with my schedule.

After going through the process of reading what they offered for male services and booking a scheduled appointment just short of a week in advance I was happy to receive an email and text CONFIRMING my appointment and requested service.

I again received a reminder of my appointment the night before. So imagine my surprise when I got up this morning 3 hours before my appointment with a voicemail telling me they do NOT offer the selected AND confirmed service/appointment for males.

To make things worse, THEY have a 12 hour cancellation policy with $25 fee charged to the credit card on file. My appointment was made 6 days in advanced yet THEY cancelled me with 3 hours notice.

I am just grossly disappointment in the unprofessionalism and will tell everyone I know about it.

The Wax Shack had lots of great reviews and that's what drew me in. I had one wax (Brazilian/brow) and the experience was overall positive--although I noted that Angie didn't really listen to my concerns or indulge questions. When I said I preferred a different eyebrow shape, one that didn't lay quite so flat along the brow, she said, "oh, you look great. It's perfect." Also, when I asked about the amount of hair coming off, "down there," because I was a bit confused about the difference between a Brazilian and a Parisian, again, she just shut me down and went to town. I didn't want so much of my hair gone but she wanted to do it her way and didn't listen.

After the appointment, I told myself she had a strong opinion/personality. I paid and let it go.

My second visit was a disaster. I asked a question about what she was doing during the Brazilian and she was defensive yet again.

When she went down there with a pair of tweezers and I told her that wasn't necessary, she refused to stop. Next, she went after an ingrown hair with some device she didn't explain before using (which hurt like all get out) and I was shaking so hard, I just had to call an end to our treatment.

I got off the table and said it was all good, I was done.

Angie told me how "insulting" it was for her that I had to stop the procedure.

I smiled and was as polite as I could be, but was firm about being done, done, done.

Imagine? My being in pain was insulting to her?

She would do well taking a class on listening and compassion. My goodness, no one has a right to hurt you and to ignore your concerns and questions.

I will never go back to that place again and I would never recommend her to anyone I cared about.

Best Brazilian. I recently moved from New York to Portland and have been in search of a local salon to do my monthly brazilian..after trying out a few different places, I found Angie at the Wax Shack. I will never go anywhere else! Angie is fun, efficient, and reasonably priced. I have never had a quicker or less painful wax in my life! Its amazing- I no longer dread this monthly appointment, in fact I even look forward to it (is that weird?!) 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!

Best Wax in Portland for the $$$. Emily is amazing! The Wax Shack is a no-nonsense salon right outside the Pearl with free parking, and a really low price for a really great wax! She was fast and thorough, and kept me distracted with good conversation the whole time. It's hard to be totally at ease with no pants on sometimes - but not at the Wax Shack! You will not be dissapointed if you try this place!

Best Brazilian at the Best Price!. I had a little issue with transportation getting to my appointment so I was about 30 minutes late, but Angie was totally understanding! She managed to squeeze me in later even though her whole day was booked. This was my first wax, but it was an excellent experience (well, as excellent as getting the hair torn out of your nether regions can be...). The waxing process was barely painful at all and Angie was great about distracting me from any discomfort with conversation. The whole thing was done amazingly fast!

I will definitely be back again.

Amazing Brazilian & Top Notch Service. Angie is very professional, yet extremely fun and cares deeply for her clients. I know because I have been a loyal client of Angie's since the 90s. Angie pays attention to the detail of her work, all the while connecting with her clients to make then feel welcomed, comfortable and cared for.

She is a master of her profession and her dedication and excitement is apparent immediately. If you are meeting Angie for the first time, you will feel like you have been friends forever by the time your appointment ends. It's no wonder that Angie works mostly by repeat and referral business. Once you see that huge smile when you walk through the door, you know you have landed in a relaxing and safe environment.

Congratulations on your success, Angie! You deserve it!

You will not be disappointed!!. I wanted to surprise my boyfriend by getting a brazilian and I was nervous because my previous experiences have been a little scary (mostly including burns and LOTS of pain). Angie was so nice and professional and made me feel at ease. When she said she was done, I was shocked! It definitely didn't hurt like before and it was over really quickly. I will most definitely return and I recommend it to everyone.

Best Brazilian in Portland. When I moved to Portland 2 years ago I was really sad to leave my waxer behind. It was hard for me to find someone I liked and trusted to do my brazilian waxing and I was not looking forward to doing it in a new town all over again. I went to a number of salons and things to get waxed here in town and when I met Angie at the Wax Shack I knew I had found the perfect replacement. She is terrific. Very sweet, fast and professional, and so affordable. Honestly, the best wax I've ever had. After Angie was done with me, I had absolutely no left over hairs straggling behind and was smooth for even longer than I had been with previous waxes. I highly recommend Angie. My only wish is that she had a nice building all to herself with a comfy waiting room instead of the one room that she has now. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is coming soon.

I heart Angie... Every women dreads their wax appointments, because they are painful and expensive....

Angie manages to make it not so painful and super affordable! She is awesome, professional, fast and fun to chat with!! I recommend her to all of my friends!
