Definitely interesting.
I had no idea what I was in for. I expect a regular thai place... did not anticipate the pole dancing servers. It was fun, once was enough though.

Good Thai.
Good food nice and spicy! Try the spicy rice with ground chicken. I would order ahead if you are on a lunch hour. Great location!

Good Food / Customer Service lacking.
My husband and I discovered Sweet Basil perchance one evening after watching a movie across the street at the Mission Theater. We returned multiple times after that because we found the food to be very good, and the decor is also becoming. However, the service has always just been "ok", and the last time we went, we also brought 3 people with us. Unfortunately, that ended up being the worse experience we had there. Our young server (can't remember her name, but it was an usual female name) was rude, didn't make any attempt at conversation or even cracked a smile the entire time. We ate early; so all tables were empty except for ours, so it wasn't as though she was busy. She just seemed like she couldn't be bothered to be friendly, and treated us as though we should feel privileged to have her serve us. Consequently, we have not returned to Sweet Basil, as there are other many great Thai restaurants in Portland/Vancouver and plenty that also have good customer service.
Overall, I would recommend Sweet Basil for their food, but they could definitely make improvements in service.

Can I just say, "WOW".
Having lived in Thailand, I think I'm a pretty good judge of good Thai food. I have only been to Sweet Basil once and was, at first, overwhelmed by the HUGE menu... many dishes to choose from. LET ME TELL YA, I had one of the best Thai dishes EVER at Sweet Basil. It was on their 'Specials' menu: Larb (pronounced laawb) Avocado with Prawns. I'm a huge fan of most Larb dishes... this one, in particular, was amazing.
I will be returning to Sweet Basil as often as possible.
