This magnificent renovated city firehouse sits proudly in the center of the Woodlawn ‘hood, and strains at the seams nightly with devoted locals. The wood-fired pizzas fly through the dining room, but if you’re in the mood for meat, get the roast chicken, it’s the best in the city.
Brick walls, warm wood tones, flickering candles - fabulous atmosphere. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. A small mishap with our order and it was taken care of, apologized and we were treated to a dessert, which was amazing! Weather permitting, the original firetruck garage door opens the restaurant up to a large patio area.
Cute, nice service....but....
My wife and I went to the Firehouse on the recommendation of some friends who loved the place. We were seated at the "bar" with another couple, there was room for 3 but 4 was pushing it. We were finally moved to a table and ordered our dinner. At the suggestion of our server I had the chicken and my wife had the fish special. The chicken was way too salty, had a chemical taste and was anything but nice, my wife's fish smelled like its best day was 2 days ago and we left after 2 or 3 bites.
If there is good food to be had, it was not given to us that night. Most times I am willing to give a spot another chance, but after that meal I wont be going back.
Fantastic pizza and experience. My husband and I tried Firehouse a few weeks ago, on a Sunday night (so not very busy at the time). We loved it. Great ambiance with all the brick. Seems like it'll be great in the warm weather when they roll that huge door up. Great wine. We got starters that were sooo good (fried cauliflower and a beet salad). We got two different pizzas. My hubby got one with sausage and his only complaint was there were either too few sausage, or maybe the sausage could have broken up in more small pieces so he got more than one bite of sausage per slice. I loved my mushroom pizza. The crust was amazing - chewy and delicious. We'll definitely be back. Next time want to try dessert - there was a lemon cake or tart that was sold out but sounded amazing.
Great service, great atmosphere and great food!. We visited Fireshouse for our annivesary. The server was wonderfully funny and attentive. The fried olives adn cauliflower with creme' fraiche were out-of-this world! The best part was the atmosphere==so warm and relaxed. We had a veiw of the chef and it was fascinating to watch him work. I've done other reveiws o restaurants on this site over several years. Our experience at Firehouse was exceptional. Great place. We'll be back!
Fresh and delicious. We've eaten dinner here about 5 times, and have gone twice for brunch. The staff is very friendly. I've loved every entree I've ordered except one. The salmon in the tomato broth is amazing, but the white fish version of the same dish was pretty bland. My only complaint is that the menu is very small and doesn't seem to change very often. The steak dish is actually a salad, which isn't specified on the menu and isn't especially filling, though tastes good. There have been a few times my dishes have come with some very bitter salad greens (dandelion?) which have not been my favorite, but everything else is really delicious. All the food tastes incredibly fresh, I'm not sure how they do it, but it makes other delicious places in Portland taste like their food is leftover from the night before. Brunch is very reasonably priced and the waffle is incredible! Their homemade bread is to die for, and the pear butter is YUM. The desserts are small and wonderful. Order 2 and share. Even the espresso is great. We love having the Firehouse in our neighborhood and look forward to seeing them expand their menu options a little.
Fantastic Food and a great use of an old fire house.. I have to say i have had all the main entrees and you really can't go wrong. and the space has a great urban brick feel. The one down side is the menu is small and doesn't often change.

On the ground floor of the historic Dekum Firehouse, a cozy brick-and-wood dining room attracts families and Northeast neighbors with its wood-fired pizzas and welcoming, rustic atmosphere. Neapolitan-style pizzas are a main focus, from the classic pizza margherita to a spicy house sausage and onion-topped pie. Simple, honest fare fills the rest of the concise menu and deliciously highlights local, seasonal ingredients in small starters of provolone piccante and pickled pepper relish bruschetta and a crisp romaine heart salad, and entrees such as rotisserie chicken coupled with mashed potatoes and green field greens.
a simple yet memorable restaurant. We had been wanting to go here for several weeks and finally made it this past weekend. Great space with a modern yet comfortable vibe. We had a hard time deciding what to order because everything on the menu looked amazing. We were very happy to realize that our expectations were met. The theme appears to be simple ingredients with subtle pairing of flavors that results in one satisfying meal. I was also excited to see that the prices were more then reasonable. Its hard to find a quality restaurant with entree prices averaging at $15. We look forward to returning in the spring and summer when their garden is in full bloom.
phenomenal!. Totally thrilled to have Firehouse in the neighborhood - great food, great service, great environment, AND sustainably focused. It was great watching the building get renovated and beautified to it's full glory, and even more pleasing to know that I can get an excellent meal at a decent price (and good wine too!) without having to go over to Alberta. Way to go guys!
The best new seat in town!.
So, we do this thing every other week where we each take turns picking a new restaurant that neither of us have ever been to and try it out. We wanted to do this not only to spend a quality hour or two out of our hectic lives enjoying each other?s company, but also to get better acquainted with all of the great food Portland has to offer. We stumbled upon Firehouse as this restaurant that is big into local produce, even growing some in their own garden. Admittedly, we were a little worried that the employees or friends of the owners might have been fluffing the place up a bit after reading the only four reviews on the internet - all of which had received five star ratings, but we decided to give it a shot. When we were first walking up to the massive brick building that is Firehouse, we were a bit worried because the exterior looks like what the building was originally designed for; a fire station - not a fine dining experience. By the time we walked in, sat down (right away), and ordered our food, our worries melted away and we were both instantly excited for the great tastes that awaited us. We kid you not, we were both at times seriously contemplating stealing some bites off of the plates of the people next to us who had ordered earlier and gotten their food already purely because it smelled incredible! And then, when we got our food, it was truly AMAZING, no exaggerating. We had the pork confit crostinis (great), buffalo mozzarella and cherry tomato bruschetta (even better) as appetizers and didn't leave one bite to spare. For entrees, the steak (as the previous reviewer mentioned) was to die for and the pork shoulder was not far behind. Then we had the risotto torte for dessert and it definitely completed our fantastic dining experience. Ultimately, we decided we were going to be regulars here. Please don't come here people, we don't want you taking our seats! BTW, Thanks Kevin, you were awesome!

We went last night for my wife's birthday and we very pleased. Service was excellent, although we were one of only two groups of people eating inside so we pretty much had the server to ourselves. He spent a lot of time going over the menu with us and giving us good suggestions.
Had the Fried Stuffed Olives and Pork Confit appetizers to start with. Both were very good. The appetizer portions were a little small, but we were planning on a full dinner and dessert so it didn't bother us too much.
For the main course I had the hanger steak and my wife had the salmon. The hanger steak was EXCELLENT. Great smokey flavor and cooked perfectly. Portion size was good too. I would definitely order this again. My wife's salmon was undercooked. We asked the server to have it cooked some more and he took it without any questions. When it came back the second time it was perfect.
For dessert I had the Chocolate Raspberry Pave (basically a big brownie) and my wife had the blueberry tort. Both were good and not too rich.
Overall we were very pleased with the food and the price was great. For beer and wine, appetizers, main course and desert our total bill was about $65. Definitely worth it. We will be going back some time to check out the pizza which looked pretty good from what we saw at the other table.
