Seasonal and experimental beers are dreamt up and brewed on site. Stay and dine outside on some pub fare or check out their recipes available online.

I have yet to see this big bright Pearl District brewhouse not packed to the gills, thanks to good beer, hearty pub grub, upbeat energy, and some seriously gorgeous woodwork.

Great food, their pretzels are amazing (the sauce especially) and a great beer list, building renovated from a former auto-body shop

Beer, as dark & wonderful as the universe itself. Food is good too. Ignore criticism about the ambience, it's about the beer = awesome.

Great Place, but get rid of the homeless guys out front. I always like going here. It's what you'd expect from a local brewpub. Good pub food and great beers. But I can't stand getting asked for money every single time I go in, or even walk by this place. There is pretty much a permanent area set up by a homeless person DIRECTLY IN FRONT of the entrance at all times. In fact I can't remember a time when there wasn't someone there making you feel guilty of having change in your pocket. I live a block away and it's not like I've just been by here once or twice. It's almost, if not, every day.

Call the Portland Police foot patrol... hose down the entranceway... put up a plant or sandwich board where they sit... or just have your staff tell the guys they need to leave... something because it's CONSTANT, and I've never seen it in front of any other restaurant. I can't believe Deschutes lets it continue to happen. Portland has more than enough places for the homeless to get what they need. Right in front of your restaurant shouldn't be one of them.

great beer and bar food. I enjoy coming here. I think the service must have gotten much better since some of these older reviews because my server was attentive and the food was good. I would suggest sticking to the bar staples and maybe not the entrees so much, not because of taste, but because i think the staples are a better value.

Our new favorite place for a beer and dinner!. My husband and I visited here last night. He sticks to gluten-free food and drink but I don't.

First, the GF beer is available on tap and by the growler all the time, and it was fantastic. I recommend it to anyone, not just people who can't do gluten - it's that good.

He had the GF elk burger and I had the GF brewery burger. Both were outstanding, cooked exactly as ordered. The housemade GF bread was okay but I recommend asking for it to be toasted more than usual, until they get it just right. They serve amazing pickles with it, but next time I'll order an additional side of pickles because I can be greedy.

The sides we had were very good. He had sweet potato fries, and good lord they were delicious. Not crispy, but so sweet and salty. I ordered a GF side salad, which was not on the GF menu, and it was very nice and had enough going on to keep it interesting.

The gluten free menu is clearly NOT an afterthought and the staff shows a high level of awareness in this area, so that was really cool.

It's great to have this within a few miles of home, and we expect to be regulars.

Good eat in, horrid take out.. I've eaten at Deschutes countless times, and usually it's pretty good. It's near my apartment, so there have been several times I've ordered take out to grab on the way home from work.

Their take out service is atrocious. Usually the server who answers the phone is barely listening, and you have to repeat the order over and over again. I don't know how many times I've said an entire order, and after 10 seconds of silence, get in response, "Oh, um, sorry. What?" And we do that a few times, until it seems they've gotten it down. Sometimes they'll even repeat it back to you.

So, that leaves one to wonder, how does it end up wrong every single time? And, how is it that they can easily get it right when you're IN the restaurant, but when you're taking it OUT, the very same order is absolutely impossible to understand? They also seem to do very strange things to take out orders, like substitute white vinegar for balsamic if you ask for "vinegar and oil" as a salad dressing. Who in the world eats *white vinegar* on a salad?

Deschutes, If I could have given 2 1/2 stars, I would have, but I just can't give you even 3 stars when it's impossible to get an acceptable take out order. Maybe you're letting the wrong people answer the phones around there?

Suburbia arrives in The Pearl. Went for lunch today and was looking forward to it because they have done such a great job with the building.

Though I didn't have beer, I ordered a classic hamburger and fries.

My burger arrived with a bun toasted so dry that I couldn't eat it; I just ate the meat with the two thin slices of tomato and half lettuce leaf. The fries were equally dry and were not fresh out of the fryer--they had been been reheated/refried.

And presentation? A total zero.

And it wasn't cheap at $9.95.

Disappointing, a rip off and I won't be back.

Great food, great beer, so-so service. I've been to the Portland Deschutes brewpub several times now, and I haven't been disappointed in the food or the beer yet!...As others have mentioned, however, the service is not always what it should be. I've experienced both ends of the spectrum; having a very vigilant waitress who came by almost too often to ensure that we were happy and had everything we needed/wanted, and having to wait 10 minutes for a waiter to come by and take my drink/food order after joining a group of friends at their table.

All-in-all I'd say things aren't as bad as they've been portrayed by those who have posted before me. The menu is varied and full of delicious dishes that will keep you happy no matter how many times you visit, and the beer (of course) is fantastic - especially the seasonal/local brews!

If you haven't been there yet, I'd highly recommend visiting, just be forewarned that the parking situation, as is true for everything in the pearl, is pretty horrible. Be ready to walk several blocks if you show up between the hours of 6 and 10pm (and likely later, given the proximity of other late-night venues) - it's well worth the trip, though!

This popular Bend brewery brings a mountain man style eatery to the swanky Pearl.. In Short
Located in a former auto body shop, this Northwest style pub pays tribute to its Central Oregon roots with a big stone fireplace, ornate woodcarvings and reclaimed timber cropping up at every turn. Beer lovers will flock here for the rotating selection of 16 seasonal beers, as will pub food devotees looking for a wide selection of fresh, seasonal, scratch-made fare. The menu features classics such as the burger, albeit one sandwiched with a homemade roll and sided with house-made pickles, and more gourmand-style pub fare like a wild mushroom bruschetta and house-braised boar-stuffed ravioli.

Big Disappointment..Don't waste your evening out here. We ate here last night and it was big let down. We ordered a flight of beers to sample and the BBQ chicken pizza. That was the worst pizza I have ever had. I have had frozen pizza that was better than this. Some guy brought it to our table and just dropped it off. I thought that was not very customer service friendly. At least confirm what you are bringing and leaving on the table. At first glance I thought the pizza he delivered was a mistake. I didn't see any chicken, just big tomato slices. I thought he brought us a vegetarian pizza. After closer inspection I could see some small pieces of chicken which were sparsely scattered over the pizza. The mozzarella cheese tasted horrible, very cheap like cheese. How could a restaurant go so wrong? We were still kind and left a decent tip but I would highly recommend to anyone that asks to not waste their time or money on eating here. Yes, a big let down when we could have spent the evening at a number of other places that we know are good. So I felt like our evening out downtown was a big let down on terrible food. Oh, and the beer it was OK, my husband was not impressed and has had better at competitors.

Good Beer Gone Bad. I?m not the type that usually complains about a restaurant, but I had to post about the new Deschutes Pub in the Pearl. Before I went, the reputation around the Pearl was that the service was pretty bad but that usually doesn?t stop me from checking out something new.

I met a friend there and we ordered a few beers. After about 15 minutes they finally arrived. That was okay, I was enjoying the conversation, but then that was it. After looking over the menu 2?3 times there was still no server. Later we discovered he ran around the corner to coax a young crowd probably on there way to the Prom into coming into the restaurant.

My nerves started to rise when after a few walk bys he finally remembered to bring out food which was cold and still forgot our other drink orders entirely. Usually that wouldn?t get to me and because I?ve worked in the food industry I tipped generously. What led to my poor review of a good beer turned Pub is that after leaving and walking to my car, the server followed me to my car and showed me the tip in disagreement and waited till either I A) changed it or B) drove away.

Thanks you, your food was good but I will never return.
