A New Way To Eat

About Bar Mingo

  • Happy Hour - All Items $5
  • Great Wines By The Glass
  • Italian Small Plates

Chef Jerry Huisinga came to Oregon from rural Minnesota by way of Minneapolis nearly thirty years ago. Shortly after arriving in Portland he went to work at Genoa, a restaurant of passionate "home cooks" who were at the forefront of Portland's changing food scene. He remained there for twenty-two years, expanding his knowledge of regional Italian food and enjoying the camaraderie and influences of his fellow employees. Together they contributed to the growing reputation of authentic Italian food that Genoa enjoyed in its heyday.\n\nDuring this time Jerry was honored to cook a Columbus Day dinner at The James Beard House in Manhattan and to study with his mentor Marcella Hazan at The French Culinary Institute. Jerry's goal is to bring great taste and good value to the customers while channeling simple Italian home cooking through the use of the freshest possible ingredients.  View Less View More

Awesome Enviroment, No Space!. Bar Mingo is by far one of the best spots in Portland for a classy drink and an ambient environment. The drinks on the menu are delicious, marvelously prepared, and make you smile. The downside is unless you come here during off hours, your not likely to have the patience to wait in line to actually enjoy any of it. The price you pay for a hot spot perhaps? :)  View Less View More

Good ambiance and menu. Bar Mingo is one of our go-to restaurants. For sure this place will give you a good meal and nice surrounding to look at while you chat with your friends.Since it is located in the NW Nob Hill area, you can't go wrong with walks to bars or coffee after dinner. Great atmosphere and really good food. I've beeen to bar mingo several times and always leave very pleased. I am a fan of the design and colors used to make the atmosphere vibrant and welcoming. Most importantly, the food is amazing. My staple here is the bolognese, though. bar mingo gets my highest recommendation.  View Less View More
