Botched Oil Change.
I've been to Columbia Rovers now for several visits, and have never been impressed by neither their service nor their prices. I didn't know
their were options beyond the dealer until they put a free oil change coupon on my car, and I was at first very hopeful.
My gut reaction upon meeting the owner, Brent, was that something wasn't right. I should have trusted my instincts, but something was definitely off about him. His other manager wasn't much better, but hey free oil change right?
After waiting over two hours to get the oil change done, something about the right filter not being in stock, I was finally approached with a huge list of repairs my car needed, including gaskets, heads, and a strong possibility that my engine was already dead, and couldn't be determined until I invested big money into tearing it a part.
My car has under 70,000 miles and these engines are supposed to last forever. I'd never overheated, and never had any serious issues. The dealership told me I had leaking valve cover gaskets a few months prior, but that it wasn't a pressing issue. I thought they were just squeezing me. That was nothing compared to this.
I left with just the oil change, telling them I'd need to check my finances first. Shortly after, I started noticing serious oil leaking underneath my car... Not happy.
I then scheduled another appointment back with the Dealership to get a second opinion. Not only did they find that my oil was nearly empty, as the OIL FILTER HAD NOT BEEN SCREWED ON TIGHTLY ENOUGH... But the only other motor leak present was still just valve cover gaskets.
I don't know if they're outright liars, or just massively incompetent. Regardless, I will steer every last Land Rover owner I ever meet away from Columbia Rovers.

Best service for your land Rover in Portland region.
I recently had major engine repairs performed by Brent and his staff at Columbia Rovers, and feel compelled to endorse their service and
professionalism. During the late summer my 95 RR classic overheated, requiring extensive repairs, under a tight time-frame and, times as they are, a strict budget. They repaired the engine promptly, on budget, [exactly as quoted] so there was no surprise bill, or a disappointment for services delivered. They diagnosed a faulty fuel pump, the only work beyond the scope of the estimate, and called to apprise me of its' costs.
They were a joy to deal with in all regards, are knowledgeable enthusiasts for all things Land Rover. Even winning over me, a dedicated d-i-y Brit car guy. There's times to tend to my 'mistress' and times to deliver it to others. I might mention that PDX, a local alternative, quoted thousands $$$$ more for the same work...
I highly recommend CR as the only team to consider as a reasonably priced, fully informed alternative to the dealership for your Landy or Range Rover. Thanks Brent!

Horrible Customer Service & Workmanship.
I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Columbia Rovers. I made an appointment to have the fuel pump in my Discovery I replaced
and was told by Brent, that they could see it the following afternoon for sure but possibly could be seen if I get the D1 there in the morning. So I arrange to have AAA deliver it that morning. I even called to notify Columbia Rovers that the tow truck was en route to their location with my vehicle. Upon calling a person who claimed to "not be the normal person who answers the phone" answers and explains that the owner Brent and JD are in a meeting. I leave my name and contact info to ensure they are aware who the SUV belongs to. I wait until 3pm on the day of delivery and call to inquire about when it will be complete. I am told that they had no idea whose vehicle it was and hadn't been touched yet. Frustrated, I asked how much longer it would be. They apologized and said it would be done by days end. A couple of hours later I get the call that the service is finished. I pick the D1 up and all seems well. Until I notice the next day that in the replacement process my rear cargo carpeting was torn in 6 separate spots. I call to alert them of this and am asked to bring it in for inspection. I do so that very day and am greeted by Brent who was less than sorry about the damage. He agrees to replace it but doesn't appear remorseful. I am left with a very poor overall experience.
** Update**
1 day after picking up my Land Rover from Columbia Rovers the newly installed fuel pump is not working properly. I call to notify Brent again of another problem with their workmanship and am told, "that is a new pump.." when I correct him that the receipt that he himself handed me listed it as "REBUILT". He then starts to back peddle and says, "it's my vehicles original assembly but the pump is new." SO it appears he selling me my own original equipment back to me for $400+ of my hard earned money. After this 3rd strike against this so called repair facility I started do some investigating into all of these positive reviews of this company. My findings are that they are responsible for the majority of these false positive reviews. That's right, they are posting positive reviews about themselves in order to present themselves as something more than they are not. I have traced each positive review by their IP and have also noticed that each "reviewer" only created their reviewing account to post one single review. And that one review is praising their service. Sounds awful fishy to me.
LAND ROVER OWNERS BEWARE OF THIS SHOP.

Great Service.
I recently purchased a 2003 Discovery II from a local dealer. As is often the case it was shiny on the outside but after a visit to
Columbia Rover I found it needed some love (head gasket). I admit I was nervous since I knew little about Columbia Rover just that I had driven by it a million times. I know how important it is to have a mechanic and shop you can trust since cars these days are too complicated to work on your self. Before moving to Portland I had a few trusted shops to work on my cars and I only hoped that I could find the same here.
To my delight I found that Brent and the guys at Columbia fit the bill. Brent gave it to me straight he gave me good advise and was very straight forward to deal with. I have gone back one time so far for a simple oil change and they continue to look after me.
Thanks guys I'll see you next time my Disco needs some love.
