Portland >Papa G's Deli
Dedicated to veganism, organic food and sustainable business practices long before it was in vogue, Papa G's has become a pioneering institution in healthy eating and living. Raw foods and gluten free options also grace the menu.
Besides being fun to say, this organic vegan deli right along SE Division has a great salad bar, lots of raw options, and plenty of GF dishes. Local beers and ciders too!
Papa G's has been around the vegan block a few times since 1999. Try the veggie burger that comes with delicately crispy breading and grab some house-made tofu for the road.
Should I try it again? Meh.. I love vegan food and I can make wonderful, flavorful, bangin' vegan food at home. This was a bummer. I hear the salad bar is divine but there was nothing to it when we were there. There were maybe 3 things in it. It felt like a place that didn't have enough product to be open but opened anyhow. It was sort of confusing to be honest. Maybe the guy (the one guy in the whole place) behind the counter forgot to lock the door when he came in and they weren't really open yet... Maybe he was still setting up? Can I believe that so I don't have to feel so bad about saying that this place felt like a sad cafeteria?
Papa G's Vegan Deli. Wow!.
I went into Papa G's earlier today, (on SE Division St) I Ordered one of the new Tempe Burgers and after one bite I was blown away. It was so delicious that I had to remind myself it was a vegan burger! (and I am NO vegan!) After a couple weeks on vacation in my small hometown in Upstate NY, where the pickings are slim for good healthy food on the go.
I walked in and ordered from the polite employee and watched her make my burger . Within only a minute or two she handed me the sandwich with a side of chips. I also tried the Nachos. I was instantly hooked after the first bite of each. I'm looking forward to my next meal there. Which will most likely be tomorrow!
