I've been having Mychal cut my hair for over two years now and she is by far the best stylist I've ever had! When I come in with ideas she always listens and when I'm unsure she always has a creative idea to make my hair look brilliant. I have short funky hair which can be tricky to cut and she always delivers. She's friendly, professional and gives the best shampoos. Definitely ask for Mychal!

Long Overdue Honest Review !. Word of Mouth Is Huge: So Here Is My Long Overdue Honest Review Of One Stylist At Burnside Proper !

I had been seeing Chai for a short while who moved to Burnside Proper from Bliss Salon & Spa. I now feel that after all I have experienced with her this needs to be said. I only kept going back because I did not want to venture out to find another stylist. We all know the horror stories of that one ! However; no haircut or color is worth this kind of mistreatment. Double booking and being rushed through appointment's were experienced. I had hair dye spilled on a new coach purse and ruined; she only offered to give me a purse that she owned in exchange for this accident. I had hair dye spilled on a shirt I was wearing and ruined. I also had a piece of my hair chopped off at the top of my head so it stuck up straight in the air. I had to use a bobby pin for two months to pin it down until it grew out. Her response to this was " You can use a little pomade to paste it down". She made lighthearted jokes about it in my presence. I paid full price for the cut and left in tears but did not feel comfortable as usual telling her how I really felt. After regaining composure I called her from home later that day and had to suggest that I should not have had to pay for that haircut. I did not feel comfortable speaking up about my concerns as she always made every unfortunate event that took place out to be no big deal. Her lack of common courtesy as a business professional is evident and she never made any attempt to compensate me under any circumstance as she should have without me asking. Two weeks ago I finally decided at the urging of a family member to call her back about a haircut that did turn out the way I had hoped. I kindly requested to come back only three days later to have an adjustment made to the cut. She seemed to be very irritated with me for being unhappy with her work and made me feel that she did not like taking the time to fix my hair. She told me that "our energies might not be alligned". What person who cut's hair for a living can't handle someone respectfully expressing their unhappiness over a haircut ? Of course my hair would still take months to grow back so what did speaking up accomplish ? The end result is a hand written note I received in the mail from Chai that reads:

Unfortunately I am uncomfortable doing your hair and therefore think we are no longer a good fit for each other. I thank you for your past business. Sincerely Chai

No one should have to endure this kind of treatment by their stylist. My only regret is that I did not stick up for myself sooner. Everyone should be able to speak up if they are unhappy with the results of a haircut or an experience at a hair salon without being made to feel bad about it. After all you are the one who has to wear it; not them. You pay good money to be taken care of and to hopefully feel good about your hair. A stylist is performing a service for you and they should be LISTENING to you. You should be excited to go get your hair cut/colored and not be filled with anxiety over the experience. Take your hard earned money and self worth to someone who will truly care about you and your hair ! YOU ARE WORTH IT !!!!

Twila is AMAZING. Best haircut of my life, too!

Two weeks before my wedding, my salon moved to the Pearl and my stylist quit. So I went to Burnside Proper on the recommendation of a friend. Twila was so so friendly and did the best job on my hair. I looked great at the Wedding and I've gone back maybe 5 times since.

I go in with an idea and Twila takes it an runs and always creates something better than I could have ever expected. Best salon and stylist I've ever been to.

The Best Haircut I've Ever Had. Amazing staff!! Twila cut my hair exactly how I wanted it, gave helpful suggestions about shape and how to manage my main of hair. I waited a whole year to get a hair cut (growing it out) and it was worth it!
