What Our Expert Scouts Say

Spints Alehouse

Pop into this laid back Restaurant Row gastropub during the twice-daily happy hour (4-6pm & 10pm-close) for a dirty pretzel and Rosa Pom Fizz. Sunday brunch boasts a half dozen different latkes!

Spints is German food with a twist, but what it should also be known for is its impressive beer selection and handmade deserts.

I head to the Spints outdoor patio around three when they open, sip a nice pint, nibble on the cheapest cheese board in the Rose City and enjoy Portland's two months of summer.

Love Spints! Great drinks, relaxed and pleasant great happy hour. It anchors the N. end of 28 Ave's restaurant row.

Very poor service.. Great wine list, it's really too bad the staff leaves a lot to be desired.

Really great happy hour. My husband and I went last night and had a great time. We ordered a couple happy hour appetizers first off, the meat smorgasbord and the fried pretzel nacho style. Both were great, interesting and tasty. The meat smorgasbord included beef heart, which neither of us had before and really enjoyed. I ordered two different cocktails which I enjoyed, both included egg whites, which is one of my favorite drink additions. We will definately be back and ordering entrees this time around.

Spints review. I went to Spints for the first time, and I was reasonably impressed. The ale selection is quite good and a bit different . None of the usual suspects from the Oregon microbrew community, primarily German syle and some really good Belgians (try the Nostradamus, yum!). I ordered from the happy hour menu, a european style sausage with a puff pastry and a beer cheese sauce, was different and tasty, and only 5 bucks. The guy seated next to me let me sample his chicken paprikash and it was delicious.

The bartender was inventing cocktails for the patrons at the bar on the fly, it was an elegant but laid back and fun atmosphere. Spint's manages to be both a neighborhood spot and a fairly upscale restaurant at the same time.

The menu might not be for everyone, vegans beware, not much for you here. But it was a pleasant experience for me and I will be back.
