Perfect lighting, elegant cocktails, crisp wines, and elevated comfort food—Grüner is just the spot for a dignified date or dinner with the in-laws. Musts include the polenta croquettes, housemade pretzel bread & buckwheat spaetzle. Bonus round—get an exceptional pre/post dinner cocktail around the corner at Kask.

Grilled pork chop with house made sausage and spetzel - one of the tastiest meals I've ever eaten. A cheese plate and endive salad are the perfect starters for this meal that is plenty big enough to share.

Downtown's favorite alpine eatery with handcrafted everything, specializing in Germanic and Alsatian cuisines. Beet-pickled deviled eggs are among the best in town, along with one bad-ass burger.
Gruner for dinner. We arrived at Gruner on Friday night around 7 and expected a busy restaurant and a wait. The hostess invited us in and took my name which she wrote on her list for table seating. She directed us to the bar, where we walked to the end and sat down and ordered a glass of wine to enjoy during our wait. She did not offer to take our coats as the waitress did on my last visit to Gruner. After I noticed several tables had been seated I checked with the hostess and she informed us had crossed our name off her list as she thought we would dine at the bar! Long story short, she gave us a table near the entrance after I said we still wanted a table. The space is crowded but we made friends with the diners next to us - one of whom was a mom of one of the chefs. Food was hearty and tasty, and our waiter checked in right on time. The dim lighting, wood paneling and clean decor are nice. Aside from the in-expert hostessing, we had a decent meal but I am not sure I will go back due to the hostess.
Great Food, Rushed Service. The food, wine, cocktails, atmosphere: all excellent. And you pay for it, which is perfectly acceptable. However, the entire experience felt rushed from start to finish: a lot of pressure to order quickly, food appearing way too fast, dishes disappearing from the table before we'd finished chewing...If a place is geared to foodies, and the ticket's going to top $100 easy, I expect to be able to relax into the evening. 4stars-plus for the food; 1star for the service.
Gruner was pretty good. It has a fun atmosphere and the food was pretty good, but the portions were small.
