Pacific Pie Co. brings to Portland one of my favorite things about Australia: meat pies. The sweet bite size pies only cost a dollar, but are full of flavor down to the last detail.

Owners Sarah Curtis-Fawley and Chris Powell make delectable Aussie meat pies and pasties, like the Beef and Stout and the Southwestern Buffalo slathered in spicy mole sauce, as well as hearty vegetarian pasties, pork sausage rolls and traditional Aussie slices for dessert.

Decadent sweet and savory Australian-style hand pies--everything from Chocolate Bourbon Hazelnut to VGF Shepherd’s. They offer pie-making classes as well.

Bacon, blue cheese frittata and a pear mimosa sounded and tasted good to me on a Sunday morning. The made to order breakfast skillet with sausage, scallions and potatoes tasted excellent when I snagged a bite from my friends skillet that taunted me from across the table. Breakfast is only served Friday-Sunday. Excellent friendly service. Street parking was easy.

What started out as a popular stop for sleepy-eyed shoppers at the Beaverton and Milwaukie farmers' markets has expanded to a full-blown pie shop--savory pies that is, and Australian-style at that. Flavorful, stewy combinations such as beef and stout, chicken satay and Moroccan chickpea fill mini pot pies and smaller handheld "pasties,” while smoky sausage rolls make for an indulgent breakfast. The cheery attitude, floor-to-ceiling windows and casual deli-style seating makes fans new and old feel at home in the tiny shop. Daily soup, salad and sweets are available and most items can be purchased frozen--meant to take, bake, and impress friends.
