Portland >Stevie's Chicken 'N Waffles
Stevie's Got Soul.
Living in a city like Portland, there is no shortage of late-night eats, unless you are under 21 and can't enjoy the barrage of Happy Hour havens, but let's assume that we are all of legal age here, and it's midnight, and you may or may not have had a few.
That late night show at the Doug Fir finally let out, and you are jonesin' for something other than a doughnut to fill that oh-so-familiar aching in tummy-tum-tum.
Suddenly, it's after midnight, and you find yourself in the heart of SE Portland on a warm summer night, and let's be honest, you've had your fair share of Roxy's downtown.
You start to remember that new Waffle joint that you've heard about...and so you hitch up your bike (or segway) to the back of your Subaru and make your way up to 34th and SE Belmont.
This is where Stevie's resides, nestled in the same loving block as Stumptown, Paradox Cafe, Hoda, and the famous Avalon theatre.
Stevie's offers something that no one else does... Seasoned deep fried southern-style chicken, deep fried pickle chips, and some of the most scrumptious homemade waffles to be had around these parts. Guess what?
There are vegan options too, like the vegan jalapeno poppers, or vegan sausage and waffle combos, all packaged with clever names like the "slim steve" or the famous "Billy D".
The staff is fantastic, down-to-earth, and accomodating, there are gold chains hanging from the ceiling, and the food is served piping hot, and ready to be devoured.
Stevie's is on it's way to joining the family of late-night destinations that Portland is known and loved for.
Did I mention that there was Colt 45 in the waffle batter?
