My husband and I have eaten at Roost a couple of times and we have been very pleased. The atmosphere at this small neighborhood place is simple, with a few tables outside. The waitstaff is friendly and unpretentious. The menu is not long but the offerings are sufficiently varied that there is enough to appeal to all tastes and moods. Tonight I had the pork chop with homemade baked butter beans, accompanied by fresh cole slaw and sautéed green beans. Each part of this dish was delicious and well executed. My husband's pan friend chicken was crispy and not greasy and he couldn't stop raving about the fried bread pudding that came along side. Our 12 year old daughter particularly enjoyed the desserts. Her review of the sour cream mouse with fresh strawberries is that it was just sweet enough and the s'more pie was a perfect blend of ice cream topped with caramelized marshmellow were yummy! We will be back again for sure.

Delicious and inviting. I have had the pleasure of eating at Roost three times now. Each time I have enjoyed my meal, with excellent and efficient service as well.

Last night, I had a chicken and arugala dish. The meat was moist and delicious. My wife had the flash fried pork ribs. She was very pleased as well.

Unsure why the first reviewer had such a bad experience, but so far, we have been nothing but pleased with this fine restaurant.

One word: horrible. I saw this restaurant on citysearches "Best new restaurants" list. I must say I was excited to try a new place especially one down in the Belmont area. My eagerness was quickly replaced by disappointment.

The evening started with deviled eggs and deep fried artichokes. These deviled eggs had a very distinct character about them as they were topped with smoked salmon. A very nice balance of creamy and smokey. The eggs were excellent...unfortunately that was the only dish that stood out.

The artichokes were oily, fibrous, and bitter. Imagine a deep fried pine cone. About 30 minutes after choking down the artichokes, came the main course. My entrée was the NY strip steak. It became apparent by the greyish color of the meat, this was not to be one of the better steaks I've had. When the meat is not fresh and the grill is not hot enough it will produce a grey steak with a semi-pink interior. To add insult to injury, it seemed like my steak lacked any seasoning at all. Just to bring out some of the savory flavor I had to sprinkle a healthy amount of salt on top of it. I've had better steaks at Shari's.

After all was said and done, the bill came out to seventy some dollars. In this era of great and inventive restaurants in the Portland area, Roost severely disappoints. Take that seventy plus and have a great meal at Beaker and Flask or Navarre. I would highly recommend skipping this place, trust me, you won't be missing much.
