You may have copious time to discuss while you're waiting for a spot at Bollywood, the casual Indian eatery conceived by Troy MacLarty, once chef of the late, lamented Lovely Hula Hands. Here, he's focused on Indian street food, adjusted slightly to accommodate the Portland ethos of local and seasonal. Order at the counter and hope to snag a seat in the funky, mismatched thrift shop setting. Then simply wait as your food begins arriving in tasty waves. Be sure to get a side of the peppers if you like it hot--the dishes are well-flavored but the spices are far from sweat-inducing.

Emphasizing street food and Southern Indian specialties, this fun, eclectic, and casual (it's counter service only) Alberta Street spot marries the flavors of India with PNW ingredients, making for delicious small plates like the chickpea, potato & tamarind chutney-topped papri chaat and ever-popular vada pav. Try the salt lassi for an authentic thirst quencher.

Bollywood is mouthwatering, colorful Indian food served in authentic (and Portland-preferred) small plate fashion. Try the okra, beets and saag paneer and wash it down with the British colonialism-inspired Pimm's Cup. Partake for lunch because lines that rival Salt & Straw's begin to form just after.

A little late night food fun here in this step into another culture. They haven't been open long, but it's such a fun atmosphere and the food is pretty tasty. We tried just about everything on the menu! Trendy fun place for fun or dates. Service friendly too. That's totally worth mentioning! I'm a bit of a service snob-and these guys were great.
