The owner's technical knowledge of his craft is unsurpassed. He explained to me what he was doing, how he was doing it, and why. He corrected the results of the poor technique of a previous cut I received from a different, more expensive barbershop elsewhere in Portland, and I could see and feel the improvement. I've received consistently excellent cuts from the other Rooks barbers as well; the owner is also an instructor in his craft, so the integrity of his staff is high. The atmosphere is classic without cliche, and professional without machismo; no hunting lodge kitsch here, just competent and conversant barbers who stake their reputation on their work rather than on trendy ploys. Friends don't let friends get their haircut elsewhere.

Single Handedly Reviving the Barbershop Experience. Justin is skilled, and very in tune to the tradional ways of barbering. Passionate and devoted to providing the "real" barbershop experience. Highly recommended.

Best barber shop in the city. Went here on a friends recommendation and was glad I did. Got the best haircut I've ever gotten and the place is real cool. The dude knows what he's doing.

I don't think I'll get a cut anywhere else as long as I live in Portland. Gotta get back for the shave!
