Good Service & Install.
I came in looking to get a relatively cheap radio that could play CDs and hook up an aux cable, and wasn't let down.
I told them a rough idea of what I wanted, and an employee took me to a showroom and let me decide based on sound/price. Aside from answering my questions, I was left to decide for myself. The salesperson didn't try to upsell me to something more expensive or pressure me into buying anything else.
The install tech I talked to was friendly, and hooked up my disconnected speaker cable free of charge.
I barely had time to get lunch down the street when they called to say my radio was installed. Two years later and no problems!…
High Pressure sales. I was impressed by the Car Toys adverts for the '08 Christmas sale. Many car stereos were priced low, and the ad said there was free "basic installation." So I venture into the store, and tell the salesperson my budget and my requirements for a deck. She immediately dragged me away from the budget room into the high-priced stereo room, telling me things such as "the low-end model won't tune in REAL HD radio," and "you MUST have bluetooth hands-free capabilities if you want to talk on your phone in-car in Oregon after Jan 1st." She said Oregon just passed a hands-free driving law and it would be in effect in days. (This was a lie, there is no hands-free law in Oregon.) She also explained that none of the decks in the store were simple enough to be a "basic install" so all of the decks suddenly had nearly $200 of extra install and misc fees. I told her the nicer deck was out of my budget, so she handed me the business card of a place where I could get a loan for the more expensive one! She just wanted a better sales commission, it was obvious. I've been lied to at other Car Toys locations before, and now I remember why I don't shop there. I ended up purchasing the lower-end deck at a competitor who beat their price and beat their install price, with no hidden fees. And the HD works just fine without the fancy, expensive add-on doo-dads that the Car Toys sales rep tried to push on me. I feel sorry for people that believe anything the sales reps say there.…
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Auto electronics include audio, navigation, in-car theater, security systems, radar detectors and performance parts. Also offers wireless phones and accessories.
Worst car stereo shop in the Portland metro area..
Overall quality: Terrible install. Power wire fell off battery on day 2 (custom post install), amp controller dial fell off the dash, installer forgot to turn on the crossover. Tech unhooked the
antennae wire from the deck and forgot to plug it back in. I have since had to go to another shop to get all the mistakes fixed, I will never return to Car Toys.
Time: Job was quoted as being done by noon, was done at 5pm. Install didn't even start until 3pm so I sat there for 5 hours before the work even started.
Price: $650, was quoted $50 to $100 less at competing shops but unfortunately chose Car Toys because they said they could have the install done by noon.…
Good Service.
I stopped in for window tinting for my birthday at Alexas Tinting, asked if they knew any place for a stereo. They said "Exclusivley Car Toys on Canyon". I also was hungry got a wonderful breakfast
at Tom's Pancake House who also refered me to them.
After Breakfast time for a walk. My fiancee scott and I headed to look at stereos. 3 hours later I have tint and the next thing I know, the prices were right, the people friendly but not over doing it, my car was in the bay. We started walking and about 2 hours later, stereo, amp and speakers lined my car, I was told 4 hours.
What a wonderful birthday I am having!!!!
Thanks to all those installers!
