Founded in 1996, The Dessert Tray started with a small wholesale line and one person. As their wholesale business grew, so did their desire to serve desserts to our neighbors in Beaverton. The Dessert Tray opened the doors of their retail space in 1999 with an open kitchen and an intimate dining area. Tucked into the curves of SW Broadway, they're still being discovered by new customers. Their greatest joy is to meet a new friend who, upon finding our bakery for the first time, opens the door and inhales deeply. That rich scent of freshly baked goods is temptation itself. In Short – This small outpost in the suburbs specializes in inventive wedding cakes, but does a brisk takeout business as well. A few seats up front cater to the instant-gratification type. Luxuries like the orange-curd Creamsicle cake, raspberry-chocolate ganache cake, marionberry pie with rosewater, six different flavors of brownies, raspberry-cheesecake bars and lemon-coconut shortbread are favorites.
STALE STALE STALE

i have been buying their black and white individual box cake for years, hoping to finally get one that is as delicious as my first experience. either i have had a string of unfortunate luck with their cakes, or the one good cake i did have was an exception and not the rule.
i have bought the same cake at Zupans, New Seasons and Wild Oats. all of which have been hard, dry and stale, with the frosting very hard and stiff. thankfully, the above mentioned retailers have been kind enough to offer me a credit for my purchase, but it would behoove customers to know not to purchase Dessert Tray's "retailed" products. Maybe it is just the specific cake box cake I buy, for it is cut and exposed on all four sides, making it vulnerable to dryness.
In any case, a huge disappointment. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
- Pros: when they're good they're good
- Cons: inconsistent quality
Worst cake in Town
by yihwahsubigcat
For my friend's birthday, I decided to use this bakery because all reviews sound so positive. I ordered a birthday cake for my friend on August 26, 2007. Maybe it is a small cake, the person on the counter was not very helpful and did not explain much about the choices to me. Two days before picking up the cake, I phoned in to change to bigger cake and they refused because they already made the batter (already??). I guess it turned out to be a good thing that they wouldn't let me change to bigger cake because the cake tastes horrible. The cake was dry with heavy sweet cream and the black decorative cream stains tongue and plate. It was quiet disgusting. Most of guests did not finish cake and I ended up threw away half of the cake. Any toher bakery can do much better job than this bakery.
- Pros: look fancy
- Cons: bad service, dry cake
BEST CAKE PLACE!!
by kaddy
I was looking for a place to have someone make a wine botle shaped cake for my husband's birthday because he's a big wine drinker/collector. After seeing the amazing cake pictures on Dessert Tray's website, I thought I'd try it. When I met with the pastry chef, she said she hadn't done too many wine cakes but felt very confident she could give me what I was looking for. I had brought in photos of one of his favorite wine bottles with me so that she could match it up as close as possible. When I picked it up, I was so impressed and happy that I didn't know how to say thank you enough. It was the most incredible and realistic looking wine bottle I've ever seen. And it was a pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting. There was no cake left, it was soooo good! I would go back there in a heart beat!! They were very friendly, very professional, very affordable, and very talented. Thanks again Dessert Tray!!
- Pros: parking, staff knowledge, price & quality of cakes
- Cons: none
