Called to get a price check on an expensive item. As others, I was told, " It's company policy to not give that information over the phone." Are you kidding me? As a business owner myself, what a way to lose customers!! It's one of the worst policies I've ever heard of. If you want to alienate your customers, that'll do it. Just read the comments. Wow.
So, I'm calling around to some local
stores to get prices on a specific ingredient, for one of our customers. Just called Winco, the response "Yeah, we're not allowed to give prices over the phone, so I really can't help you."
I will happily pay more somewhere else.
Called for simple information.
I'm a busy guy. I'm throwing a Halloween Party and need pumpkins - so instead of wasting gas driving all over to find out the prices, I called. I called Safeway. Helpful. I called Freddys. More helpful. I called New Seasons and a couple pumpkin patches - everyone was happy to tell me their price per lb. Winco? Here's how that conversation went:
Me: "Hi, sorry to bother you - I need to buy a large quantity of pumpkins for a party, I was hoping you could tell me your price per pound"
Them: "We don't give out prices over the phone"
Me: "Oh, ok - not even for pumpkins? I just dont want to drive all over"
Them: "Nope". Click. Hung up.
Guess what? I won't be stopping by to see the prices for myself. Which is good, because it's an excellent way of avoiding dings in my car from your carts in your crazy a*s parking lot. THANKS for the helpful customer service.
Get what you pay for?. I've shopped at Winco for at least 15 years (well before they were Cub Foods). Typically my experience has been OK, but there is one cashier at the Beaverton store who was belligerent, condescending, and unprofessional (complaining about me to other customers in line in my hearing, marching me to customer service like a child when she didn't want to refund an over-ring, etc) the two times I had the misfortune to end up in her line. I avoid her now at all costs. If Winco's prices weren't so much better than anywhere else, I'd be joining others who have left for other stores. Customer service just shrugged when I complained and gave me a card to mail in. With employees like that, they could end up wtih no customers!
I love Winco.
If you ignore the totally rude "Person in Charge" guy (what a title) The prices are awesome, We just moved back to OR from Florida and I did all my shopping at the Walmart Neighborhood markets, but they dont have those here..
Winco is totally awesome, and SOOOOOO much bulk food! You dont get any cheaper and the quality is decent for bulk. The spice selection is awesome and you can buy a pound of herbs for what you would spend on a dinky bottle in the spice aisle, and they have a HUGE wall of bulk coffee in probably 50 different flavors (and non flavors).. I drink waaay too much coffee and buy it all there lol! The bulk cofee is 5 something a pound but it always seems like you get more than a regular pound for the price.
I have never had a problem with the meat quality and they have a very large selection of meats, no halal meats but they do have a small selection of kosher foods.. They have a good selection of oriental foods, mexican foods and some other assorted imported stuff throughout the store.. My favorite buy.. Marinated mushroom jar for 1.45!! I stock up when I go! Large selection of yogurts, frozen foods and much more! The seafood is always very fresh and most are very good priced for the quality (most of the fish are imported but previously frozen) but are good!
Not worth it to me..
Every time I go there, I end up nearly in tears. I get so frazzled, such a headache, that by the time I get back to my car, I want to take up smoking!
I have five kids. I've taken them shopping many a time alone. However, it usually isn't such a heavy task to try and get two carts through a store (one for kids, one for food). But here, it is IMPOSSIBLE. And they don't offer multi-child carts or those with the cars attached.
The store is ALWAYS loud, the aisles are ALWAYS crowded to the point that, you can't get down an aisle without having to wait for five other customers to come by. Half the time, they are out of the product I want. The other half, they just don't carry it.
You cant select produce because the stock people have the aisles blocked. The lunch meats/cheese section is always destroyed from customers tossing stuff everywhere. You find bags of once frozen food on a shelf next to the dryer sheets.
Ugh. I'm getting a headache just thinking about the place. The ONLY reason I go back is because they carry a large selection of bulk foods, but as soon as I find another store that does, I will NEVER go back there.
Oh, and just avoid the bathroom at all costs. It has been DISGUSTING every time I have been there.
Great prices on nearly everything!. I LOVE WinCo! I'm middle-income, have a Costco membership, and shop occasionally at places like New Seasons, but just can't resist the savings at WinCo. Milk for under $2/gallon, red peppers always around $.50/each (in the middle of winter!), great deals on produce in general, and low prices on almost everything (even high-end cheeses, which I love). I think a lot of people assume WinCo is for low-income shoppers and doesn't have much selection. It always has what I'm looking for and while it doesn't have the ambiance of New Seasons it more than makes up for it in prices. I've shopped at Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Safeway, and WinCo consistently beats them all for variety and price. Seriously, I bought a six-pack of microbrew, a gallon of milk, and three boxes of Corn Chex there yesterday for $13. Where else is that possible?
Great store to buy food. Because there is no WALMART near beaverton, this is the next best thing (unless you want to buy bulk and go to COSTCO). The prices are much cheaper than other grocery stores in the area. Look for the green lables for the best prices.
Winco. I do all my grocery shopping at Winco stores. This is the best store for my pocketbook. No one else can even come close to compare with their prices. Thank you Winco and employees.
Where else are you going to find 24 hours grocery shopping with discount prices and to my way of thinking, great service from friendly people. The employees go out of their way to help you if asked!. Remember, the employees own the stores. They have everything at stake to ensure good cuistomer service and great prices. And now, they carry Nancy's Organic Plain non-fat Yogart with the cheapest price in town! Go to Winco and support the employees while you save mucho bucks!
