worst food , owner workers in this restaurant very rude, very long time wait for the room service is not good food very hot salsa ,ever but it never would recommend this restaurant to anyone
WORST Mexican Food EVER. I went craving some good Mexican food, & what I got was JUNK!!! I asked for fajitas & all I got was something that tasted like liver & a lot of bell pepper & onions. This place does not know what Mexican food REALLY is, if you gave this place a good review I would suggest you travel to Texas. This place is OVER RATED & OVER PRICED! I feel sorry for the people who go & enjoy this place, even Taco Bell is more authentic than this JUNK!!! I now know that Portland does not have good Mexican places to eat. This place caters to people that have NO IDEA what Mexican food really is, & by the way I'm not Mexican I'm Colombian & I know what REAL Mexican food is. THIS IS JUST JUNK!!!!!!!!!
Good food and good drinks. The place is always busy and we now know why. The food was not Americanized like many Mexican restaurants. It may not be the best-looking food, but it tastes good. The decor is a little on the busy side, but it’s entertaining to look around.
Terrible. I have looked everywhere for good Mexican food in Portland and Beaverton, as far as I am concerned it does not exist. This is a prime example of Mexican food gone terribly wrong. I lived in Texas for most of my life, and I understand the difference between Tex-Mex and Mexican food. I have had both, on all levels. From the fine dining, to the little taco truck. Please don't go here, it is not what Mexican food is, Mexican food can be something sublime. I will call this what it is, North-Mex, and it does not work. Please reconsider if you ever find you yourself attracted to this place.
An awesome "bucket" drink (Cazuela!), fast hot food and delicious recipes!. I love the asada and colorado beef personally. Pepita's is my preferred mexican hang-out where they know my drink orders and the food is always delicious. I have never had a bad experience there, except sometimes the staff is shorthanded.
Use to be better..
I have eaten at Pepitas many times over the last 4 years or so. The last 3 times or so, my wife and I have said "No more", and after our last dinner there, we won't be returning. I don't know if there was a management change, or if the cooking staff has turned over, but the quality of the food has really declined.
On our last visit, I ordered Menudo, my wife the Tortilla soup with a side of beans, and my children a quesadilla. My menudo was watery and lifeless, the corn tortillas mass produced and tasteless. My wife's tortilla soup was too salty. When the waiter brought out my children's quesadilla and my wife's beans, he warned us about the "hot plate". Problem is, neither the plate nor the contents on them were hot, and we had to ask that the beans re-heated.
We have ordered cocktails there in the past, and I agree with others the prices are too high and the margaritas are made from bottles mixes.
Overall, I cannot recommend this place. If I want good Mexican food (without ANY atmosphere), I go to Ochoas in Hillsboro.
Editorial Review. Pepita's Mexican Restaurant serves up authentic dishes in a friendly and traditional setting.
Cheerful Folk Decor, Friendly Waiters. Expensive Drinks. Fajitas Were Very Sweet..
Very colorful folkart decorations. Attentive staff. Fast service. Adequate portions. Moderate food prices.
Beer @ $4.50 seemed a bit stiff, and it's not priced on the menu. Margaritas are $7, but they are big, however my wife's wasn't that good.
Our fajitas should have been great, but they tasted like the cook uses sugar as a seasoning- could have been the onions were especially sweet.
Salsa was adequate, but could have used more garlic and cilantro. Nowhere near being the worst, better than most, but not the best Mexican restaurant.
PS: Check your credit card statement. They increased their tip a couple of bucks, which I will contest on principle.
best burritos. I don't know what the other reviewers were talking about. I go here often and the food is always excellent as is the service. The chicken burrito is terrific with huge chunks of lean chicken, not the usual greasy and fatty chicken you get at other Mexican restaurants. If you like good Mexican food I highly recommend giving Pepita's a try.
Worst Mexican food I have had here.
I went to this place based on the 6 good reviews I had read. I don't know where the previous reviewers have eaten Mexican food at..but if this place ranks as good to them..then they have not ever had good Mexican food.
The salsa was like spaghetti sauce with hot sauce thrown in. My margarita was so bad that I sent it back and ordered a beer instead. I ordered the combo meal with a cheese enchilada and chicken tamale and my husband ordered the chicken burrito. My refried beans had good flavor but were the consistancy of water. My rice was full of grease. My enchilada was covered in an odd sauce that I can not describe. AND the worst part was the tamale. Tamale's are supposed to be covered in a nice Salsa Verde....mine was covered in the same "odd" tasting sauce as my enchilada and it was so dry that I might as well have eaten a cotton ball. My husband ate most of his burrito simply because he was starving but he never wants to go there again either. Just horrible food. Next time we want Mexican food we will go to Santa Fe. It is right up the street on the corner of Beaverton- Hillsdale and Lombard. Sometimes the wait staff is slow..but the food is always good there. Avoid Pepitas..it really was the worst Mexican food I have had.
