Portions are Shrinking/Restaurant Needs New Management. I have visited this restaurant twice in the last three weeks. The first time, the service was HORRENDOUS. We had been sitting for a good 15 minutes before our waitress noticed we had finished our meals. She told us she was on her way, while she continued to serve the two tables on either side of us and finally take the order of the table behind us before allowing us to pay our bill and leave......While we waited (we had nothing better to do) we noticed what looked like butter sprayed on the blinds. The restaurant has a very foul smell, in some areas of the restaurant it is worse that other places. I enjoyed my favorite dish the Crab and Shrimp Foccacia, but noticed that my side dish was smaller than I had at other Newport Bays in the area. My second visit also highlighted the very unpleasant smell, butter on the blinds (while seated at a different table, but a well meaning server. On this occassion, not only the side portion had shrunk, but the sandwich bread on my entree as well. If you are expecting this restaurant to mirror other Newport Bays you have visited, think again. The chain needs to pull the plug on this one. I wonder whether I will have a side item on my next visit and whether my soda will reach $3.00/glass.
Not Good. We ate at this restaurant after some serious recommends from local friends. I was less than impressed. The food was low quality. I did not eat at this specific restaurant, but I cannot remember the exact address of the one I ate at. The Newport Bay, in my Opinion, was a sit down fast food restaurant. That is about the quality of food we got. The service was average, though the waitress could not answer many menu questions. I would not personally eat here again, or at any of them for that matter.
great happy hour. Both times that my girlfriend and I have dined at Newport Bay we were seated very quickly. We ate in the dining room once and in the bar once. Service was excellent both times. The happy hour menu is relatively cheap and has many choices. Awesome chowder! Great salads and other apps to choose from. I would suggest Newport Bay to anyone. The regular menu entrees are also excellent.
AVOID! Food contained ingredients we told them we could not eat - like bacon in clam chowder..!.
This was a disaster, my first wedding anniversary dinner and what a mess they made of it! It began with my asking about the butter which came with the bread at the outset of the meal - I asked for plain butter, telling them I cannot tolerate garlic. The bread and butter arrived OK, and I was asked about appetiser and entree. I mentioned that I can't eat meat, (a medical thing not a food fad) and they suggested the clam chowder soup - which I declined in favor of crab cakes.
Just as well as their 'seafood' soup has... bacon in it! This would come as a nasty surprise to anyone, who like me cannot eat pork, beef, lamb etc. Their excuse when this oddity was put to them? "It's been the same recipe for many years' so they have NO EXCUSE for not knowing that it has bacon?
After the crab cakes, my entree arrived - It was the rockfish with, I was assured no garlic in the fish sauce. The 'house salad' - which I was assured was just veggies also arrived. It was nothing of the kind, having shrimp all over it! It was also smothered in... GARLIC croutons!
The entree actually made made me sick to my stomach, I had to go outside... the fish may or may not have had garlic on it, I never found out as the beans were smothered in garlic butter! I complained that this was the case, I got an offer (from the maitre) to replace the beans without the sauce (which had spread all over the plate). I declined, and they offered us a 'cheese cake' slice by way of recompense. My wife dissolved into tears, our evening ruined. The cake arrived with a pathetic little candle stuck in it, just to remind us what the night was and how bad it had turned out...
We waited for the server to return with the bill. Some 15 minutes later (she managed to avoid our eyes) we were told the bill had been zeroed (the least they could do as 90% of the food was inedible!)
As we left we were asked when we would return. When Hell freezes over! ' was my intemperate but justifiable reply?
Great Happy Hour Food & Prices. I only go to Newport Bay during Happy Hour and either I get the chicken tenders or the cheeseburger. They are delicious, and Newport Bay has the best happy hour in the Hillsboro area (not that there is much to choose from), for the food and the price. It gets really crowded sometimes though and you have to wait for a booth, and people can be really rude and steal your booth.
Very Classy. The was the best food I have ever had and it my homecoming night a lot smoother. Food was excellent and the dessert was scrumpcious and the appitizer just set the tone of the night. Two thumbs higher than the Space Needle.
