Editorial Review for Ponzi Vineyards – by James McQuillen
In Short
Dick Ponzi founded Ponzi Vineyards in 1970, with his wife Nancy. A pioneering spirit, perseverance and a great deal of experimenting has brought the Ponzi name, and Oregon wines acclaim. Ponzi has the dubious distinction of being the closest winery to Portland--so close, that the rapidly expanding city seems moments away from engulfing it. But the grounds are lovely, with an attractive tasting room set among the vines and hills.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasIn addition to its Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and "Vino Gelato" (a Riesling "eiswein"), Ponzi now produces a Dijon-clone Chardonnay and small quantities of Arneis.

Walking amongst some of the oldest vines in Oregon helped my fiance and I appreciate the effort it takes to make world class wines. The estate vineyard was beautiful, the staff was the friendliest I encountered at any winery and the wines spoke for themselves. We will come back and tell all our friends about it for sure.
Pros: Setting, wine and staff
Cons: Busy

A little out of the way, but worth the trip in my opinion. Friendly tasting room staff. The wines are rarely a dissapointment. The reserve Pinot Noirs are worth the trip! The 1999's and 2000's are showing very well. Prices are a little high but overall fair.
Pros: good wines, friendly staff
Cons: out of the way, somewhat pricey
