Great atmosphere, great outdoor deck for the warm days, but service is terrible and the food mediocre. I have lived in the neighborhood for over a year now, and was lured in by their 2 for 1 coupons, and the hopes of finding a favorite neighborhood place. Having gone in 5 or so times, with or without coupons, I made my mind that the last time was to be the last. The lovely bartender is always painfully slow to get to our table; she is seen chatting with the boys sitting at the bar at the expense of other customers. Upon arriving to our table she acts as if we are a bother to serve. The wonderful plump spinach salad I loved is, the next time, half it's original size, with not very fresh ingredients on it, which was very disappointing- this was the final straw for me and this restaurant. My roommate/homeowner has been going to Mitty's for 20 years, she says it's just tired. She ordered a steak on the menu, which is no longer available. I think it's bad management (as I have a BA in restaurant management). Amongst other variables, to be successful in the restaurant business you need enthusiasm and an effort at attention for ALL of your customers, and consistent quality..... Walter Mitty's provides neither.

Dissapointing. I've had some decent food at Walter Mitty's before. I wouldn't go so far as to say excellent and it certianly isn't the first place I run to when I dine out, but in a pinch, it's close, fast, and hot. However, my recent experience was really a dissapointment. The service was fine but the food was sub par and borderline inedible. I ordered the chicken and artichoke fettuccini which comes with soup or salad. I opted for soup and ordered clam chowder. When it arrived at my table I could tell right away that something was wrong. It was thick, pasty in appearance and texture, and tasteless. It looked like someone opened up a can of clam chowder, dumped it in a bowl, and nuked it for a minute, but forgot to add milk or water. I took one bite and then complained to the waitress and asked her to take it away. It was gross. My entree was just as dissapointing. I asked for whole wheat noodles and "cajuned" chicken. The noodles where clumped together and undercooked, the chicken was rubbery and tasted like it had been reheated, and there was absolutely nothing cajun about it. Aside from the bread, the only thing edible on the plate where the artichoke hearts. I was surprised when I got my bill and noticed that I had been charged full price for my meal, even though I sent most of it back. I paid my tab and left hungry. What a rip off. Friends at Walter Mitty's: I want to like you, I really do, but you need to get it together!!

Consistenly great food & service. I have been here a few times now & have never been dissapointed. The girls are always friendly & the food is great. I highly reccomend the wilted spinach salad! The fish & chips are the best I've ever had & the pastas are to die for. I always have the crab wontons to start -yum!!! My husband had the bay shrimp sandwich the last time and wasn't too happy, but what do you expect - its bay shrimp, cheese & tartar on grilled bread. If it sounds good there, it usually is, but steer away from odd sounding menu items.

I also happened to stop by for happy hour & left full without spending much...on food that is...my bill was mostly from the excellent cocktails.

A great neighborhood restaurant.

Great Service!. For those of you looking for a non-corporate local restaurant to have a good drink and a decent meal, consider Walter Mitty's next time. Mitty's breeds an EXCELLENT Wilted Spinach salad, which seems to be the selection of at least one person at every table. Also, DO NOT ignore the halibut fish and chips,. Plentiful and absolutely great...worth the price for sure. Service is somewhat hit and miss- the asian bartender is stellar at shakin' a martini and probably the best server I've had anywhere in months. Overall, a friendly staff, good eatin' and a low-key hangout (not to mention the dining patio in the summer).
