Amazing soup & sandwich shop.. Amazing soup & sandwich shop. Incredibly consistent and great service. A true staple of Lake Oswego!

Gubanc's. Sorry service. My daughter wanted a root beer float. The waiter and manager said they did not serve it. I asked for a scoop of ice cream and some root beer, and was even refused that. Needless to say, we have not been back even though we are locals. These guys need some lessons in customer satisfaction.

Good food, but can be unpredictable.. We have been to the G more times than I can count. Food is good, more like comfort food. However, it is inconsistent. My husband often orders the fish and chips, he loves theirs, but too often he gets a tiny piece of fish and leaves hungry. A few times he had more fish on his place than he could eat, perhaps they gave him a double order. I like their dishes, but they don't wow me. This place is always busy, drinks are great, esp the margaritas and it's clean. The food is better than traditional pub fare, BUT you pay dearly for it. For their 5 oz fish & chips it's about $17, hendering on very over priced. I order something different each time I am there, (average $15) chicken dumplings, pasta, roast pork, specials, always pretty good, but nothing that I couldn't cook at home. Service, depending upon who you get can be terrible, clueless to very good. They don't advertise, don't need to and I suppose the affluent hood keeps them in business after all these years. I, for one, would love to see more healthy, "today" lighter dishes on the menu. And parking can be a challenge. Anyway, they are good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to find the place if I didn't live 1 mile away.

Outstanding place in the 'burbs to EAT!. We've been eating here since 1988! They're open for lunch & Dinner, FRI-SAT. The staff is very friendly.... it is a "Cheers" type of place - they really DO know your name if you've been there more than twice.

They have their "usuals" and then they have 3 weekly entree specials; one of which is some outstanding salad. Some people say it's a "fern bar" but that's not true... it's just and excellent place to "eat" as opposed to dine. And they just happen to have some Boston Ferns hanging in the skylights! Their daily soups are legendary and some are unusual but outstanding.

You can always count on an excellent meal, whether you choose a "staple" item from the regular menu - or a weekly special. You can't go wrong.

Children 2-5 leave them at home..... under 2 bring them, there's always some Grandma/Grandpa near that would love to hold them while you eat. 5 & over, bring them, they're old enough to entertain themselves. 2-5, leave them at home, they're disruptive and the restaurant isn't set up to accommodate them, which isn?t fair to the other diners!

Outstanding for Food, Service and Atmosphere. My wife and I travel for work and we both look forward to having dinner at Gubanc's on our return. We have patronized Gubancs' for more than 15 years, and have never found the food, service or atmosphere anything but superb, we especially like the varied soup menu and their daily specials are always fantastic. Our four kids have been raised eating at Gubancs and now go there as adults with their friends.

Gubancs' is that always sought after restaurant that fills you with more than good food, it satisfies your senses and soul while filling you with some of the best food to be found in Lake Oswego.

Our personal favorites are their BLT, Steak Sandwich and on Friday they make an outstanding Cream of Mushroom soup that we try to never miss! The only difficulty at Gubancs is trying to decide between our favorites and the daily specials that are always outstanding.

Best place in LO!. I went to Gubanc's the other night and had the best pot-roast, and another member of my party had the chicken and dumplings which were also absolutely fantastic! Where can you even find great food like that anymore?? Thanks, Gubanc's, for the consistently great food and service. There wouldn't be anywhere decent to eat if you weren't in town!!

Don't bring your kids!. Sad experience! Have been going to Gubancs for almost 20 years. Recently bringing my son, husband and friends. The Manager, Steve has completely ruined this destination for us. There might as well be a sign on the door that says "leave your child outside". The Mgr hovered over us without talking to us, watching every move our child made, and actually asked his wait staff to "remove the little vase of carnations from our table so the next guest could enjoy", my son was thriled to smell and pull in and out of the vase, normal 2 year old behavior. The vase and flowers were in perfect condition when we left. We had a confrontation with the poor waiter (who was kind and embarresessed), and when my husband spoke with the Mgr upon leaving. We dine out regularily with our child, and he's pretty great in restaraunts. In todays world, it's really dissapointing to see a family, neighborhood restaraunt have a Mrg with such backwards attitudes on how to treat guests with kids. Food is great! Atmosphere hasn't changed since the 70's. Just not a place to bring children.

Take a step back into the Seventies.... ... because this place hasn't changed since 1979. In fact, botanists visit this place regularly to see what the state of ferns was "back in the day."

The setting is nice and intimate ... wood everywhere (imagine a ski lodge with an Asian flair). And the loudspeakers were pumping out the smooth tunes of Kenny G. Lemme tell you, you ain't gonna get *that* at any of them foo-foo places in the Pearl!

This place must bring them in because it's got a parking lot as big as nearby Lake Oswego High School's.

THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN THE GUBANC'S!!!!. Even though Gubanc's is located in LO, I do not mind driving from Portland for the quaint atmosphere, consistently outstanding food, and the affable and efficient staff! I frequented Gubanc's with my parents growing up and now try to eat there at least once a week with friends, family or whomever. The place really is great for anything ranging from a casual lunch or an after-work drink to a relaxing dinner. The kitchen obviously places great pride in its food, and the staff is so friendly that anyone can feel comfortable! I have enjoyed trying many many restaurants all over town but Gubanc's is unequivocally my favorite place to eat in Portland!
