If you haven't yet satisfied your curiosity about this gaily-painted donut shop en route to Mt. Hood, you should. The fresh carrot cake doughnut slathered with thick cream cheese frosting is worth pulling over for.
Had a really bad experience with an elderly employee. She was rude and literally huffed at me when I asked her to cut two donuts in half for my kids. She huffed several times during the exchange and rolled her eyes. I've never been treated so rudely in my life. I worked in food service for 9 years and realize it can be stressful. I've never complained about bad service until now because it was honestly TERRIBLE. We went back once more and had another cold, rude experience with a younger girl. We won't be back again. Great donuts, just not worth putting up with your staff.
The Best!. The best doughnuts around, bar none. Blows Voodoo's lame doughnuts away without question. Joe's makes the traditional doughnuts, so if you want something with beef, super sweet diabetes inducing candy, pharmaceutical products on or other non-traditional toppings, you still might do Voodoo. But traditional doughnuts, OMG Joe's blows the rest away!
Could do better.
One trait people look for in an iconic establishment like Joe's is friendly employees who seem happy to help you. At Joe's this is something I have rarely seen, which is why I rarely go there. Every time I do, it is about the same, fairly cold service. It's not just me, others are treated about that way also.
In my most recent visit, in addition to not being friendly, the employee coughed into her hand, and then looked at me like "so what?" She did use a tissue to pick up the food when filling my order, but still. I should have asked her to wash her hands, but there were people behind me, so I didn't.
Both of these are training issues that reflect on the management of Joe's. Too bad. It could do an even better business than it does.
used to be great. For years Joe's was a very special place to buy donuts - They used to make their donuts larger and they were so delicious. Now they are just average donuts, just as good as you can get at Safeway's or Fred's. Very disappointing if you are an old customer.
the best i've had yet. my husband and i have a weakness for donuts and while driving back from a camping trip we had to stop in......They were sooo good. I am glad they are 45 minutes from my home or we would be in some "big" trouble. The chocolate bar had a delicious chocolate, cake like frosting and the glazed were good too. I think my husband ate about 5 through the course of the day. They were really the best i have ever had. Can't wait to drive through again.
excellent. Whenever I head to Sandy I must have some donuts from Joe's. Excellent handmade donuts. Great service and atmosphere.
The Best on the way to the Mountain. We happened upon Joe's Donuts one early morning to go snowboarding. Perhaps we were drawn the the red and white checkerboard building, or perhaps we were drawn by the large amount of traffic walking through the doors. What ever the case, we were not dissappointed. The donuts were fantastic! I have not been able to find an applesauce cake donut this good in years! (Their maple bars aren't too bad either.) For those of you looking for a quick donut stop, stop here! You won't regret it.
