worth the trip!

I had been hearing great things about this place for years, and last week I finally made the trip out with a couple of friends. And all I can say is, wow, it was easily worth the drive.
The Food:
Calamity Jane's has some of the best tasting burgers around, and with a pretty extensive menu, they've got every kind of burger you can think of ranging from mundane to "why would they even make that?" - so regardless of your taste, there will be something to suit you. and I can attest to the fact that the marshmallow and hot fudge burger is actually quite good. Their milkshakes are also fantastic, and quite large.
The Atmosphere:
The restaurant has a western sort of theme, and while the theme has been done to death, Calamity Jane's did a good job at at least making it look good. There is nothing fancy about the place, they don't try to win you over with a ton of decorations, it just feels like home.
Service:
The one time I went was on a Tuesday night, and it was fairly early in the evening, so we basically had the whole place to ourselves. Looking back, I think we were only three other occupied tables. Regardless, our waitress was quite friendly, and service was quick.
My one gripe about Calamity's is that it's kind of a long drive from home. If you live in the Sandy area, it's going to be right down the street, but I, like most people in Oregon live in the Portland area. If my memory serves me right, the drive was about 40 minutes one way. But in spite of the long drive, I am definitely glad I made the trip out, and I'm already thinking about going back.
In short, if you like a good hamburger, you'll love Calamity Janes
- Pros: great food, good atosphere, friendly staff
- Cons: a bit of a drive
WOW THE BOX OF SHAME
by rockstargroup
So my family went to clamatiy jane's for our annual family reunion. we showed up unannonced with 30 people most of them being screaming 2 year olds. the manager imediatley opened there patio for us and gave us our own server. the manager came out to check on us, she then talked all the guys in our group into the trailboss burgers (which are 1 pound each) and of course we all had shakes. after our meal most of the guys need to take there burgers home.... out came a hand drawn BOX OF SHAME. WE LOVED IT!!!! Kudos to whom ever came up with that, and thank you clamity staff for making our family time a very enjoyable time.
Ok if in the area but wouldn't drive out of my way to eat there

This place has been around forever and when you first step inside it smells like it. It has an old musty cigarette smell, not that appetizing. Once you get used to it the place is ok but the food is just average and the service pretty poor. We were given the wrong soup and since the server never came back to check we finally had to ask someone else to get the correct soup for us. They also forgot to bring my son's milk until we asked, after the food was delivered. The burgers are huge, definetly can be split. The sandwiches are ok, nothing special. If driving up to the mountain and hungry it is an ok place to eat but not worth going out of your way for. Very kid friendly, they have a kids menu, crazy decor, and brought crayons and a picture for him to color while we waited. More of the kind of place you go once to say you have been since it is kindof iconic in East county. My husband went as a kid 30 years ago and says the place hasn't changed a bit except his taste buds grew up and he can see why his parent's were never that excited to go there!
- Pros: Kid Friendly, Crazy Pizza Burgers, local landmark
- Cons: average food at best, poor service, hard to pull out of lot onto busy hwy, smelly dining room
